From the Minister

This Sunday, newly elected Junior Warden Stephen Courtney will lead worship with the Rev. Rali Weaver, current Minister at the UU Church in Dedham and our former Assistant Minister. On this Fourth of July weekend, Stephen will read from a historic sermon preached at King’s Chapel in 1874, on the death of Senator Charles Sumner, a formidable foe of slavery and advocate for abolition. Sumner was a former King’s Chapel member, and the words of our minister, the Rev. Henry Foote, testify to the impact Sumner’s life had. Rev. Weaver will consecrate Communion, which will be served at the Morning Prayer service.

Stephen has been a member of King’s Chapel for ten years, and has served in many capacities, including Chair of the Building Committee, Chair of Denominational Affairs, and co-founder of the weekly Bible study. In his civilian life, Stephen is an architect, with a specialty in designing and developing proton therapy centers for the treatment of cancer.

From the Bench

Our soloist for this Sunday, Jaya Lakshminarayanan, has declared a musical theme of French music of the 20th century-- by Jean Langlais, André Caplet, and Auguste Descarries-- for your delectation, including settings of The Lord's Prayer and Agnus Dei during Communion. It will be supplemented with organ works by Jean Langlais.

King's Chapel Visit, Sunday July 16 at 12:30 PM

The City of Boston has opened an exhibit that addresses many of the concerns King's Chapel has been discussing, but in a very different way than our plans. It's well worth visiting, and more information can be found here. The Adult Religious Education Committee invites you to go with others from King's Chapel on Sunday July 16. Meet Betsy Peterson at King’s Chapel after Morning Prayer, or by the Sam Adams statue in front of Faneuil Hall at 12:30 PM.

Saturday, July 22 and Sunday, July 23, 1:00- 3:00 PM at the Parish House

Do you want to create something beautiful? Sign up for a two-part mosaic-making workshop led by our own Emanuel Genovese. You may have seen other mosaics by Emanuel's students decorating the Little Chapel at the Parish House! In this workshop, Emanuel will lead us through the process of designing and creating a mosaic of our own. Please sign up by e-mailing Laura, and don't dally! Slots are limited to 6 students, and sign-up closes on July 15 to allow Emanuel to buy materials.

Lunch will be provided at the first workshop.

Possible Pilgrimage to Alabama Civil Rights Sites, Fall 2023

We have just learned of three opportunities to visit Montgomery and Selma this fall, one led by the UU Living Legacy group, and two by June Cooper, UCC minister, who would have led the trip some of us had planned to take before its COVID cancellation. We must act soon to have a KC group to travel together, especially for a Cooper trip. The first step is to find out who is seriously interested. To read about the trip details, click here.

If you really hope to go and want to be included in choices and updates, email betsytpete@gmail.com as soon as possible. Let Betsy know if you are interested and if you have a strong preference among these choices.

First Summer BBQ

The first of the summer barbecues was held last night, and the rain held off! About 20 people enjoyed the delicious grilled food, prepared by Bob Fallon, along with the tasty sides, salads and desserts brought by the guests. It was a wonderful way to start the summer. We hope to see you on July 27 at 6:00PM for BBQ #2!
