Worship 11:00 AM Sunday

In-person at 58 Tremont St. and live-streamed. Doors open at 10:30 AM.

From the Minister

Leading the services this week is King's Chapel member Timothy Nelson-Hoy. He writes about his sermon: "What I say to you in the dark," Jesus tells us in this week's Gospel, "tell in the light, and what you hear whispered, proclaim from the housetops." How can we be attentive to hear what is whispered around us? And how do we know whether it's time to hear, or our time to proclaim?

From the Bench

Our soloist this Sunday is tenor Sam Crosby-Schmidt, who will sing a Harry Burleigh arrangement of the spiritual Little David, Play on Your Harp, as well as Shakespeare’s Orpheus, set to music by British composer Ivor Gurney. Gurney spent most of his adult life in mental hospitals, apparently at one point thinking he himself was Shakespeare and writing entire plays in iambic pentameter. The organ voluntaries are by Buxtehude and Homilius.

King's Chapel Memorial in the News
While reporting a larger story on how Freedom Trail sites present history, WGBH Investigations Editor Paul Singer, and BU journalism students Cassandra Dumas and Jessie Sage O’Leary, found themselves compelled by the story of our endeavor to memorialize those enslaved people connected to King’s Chapel’s past. As a result, our Memorial to Enslaved Persons was the subject of a front-page article in Monday’s Boston Globe, and has been featured on NPR's Morning Edition program and on WGBH's website. Please see each item by clicking on the links provided or going to our website. Moving forward we will endeavor to keep you apprised of such developments as they occur.

Homeward Bound From Transylvania

We laughed, we hugged, we cried, and we said goodbye. Our final gathering in the parish house of the First Unitarian Church of Kolozsvár was a poignant moment with friends. We toasted each other with pálinka (Hungarian brandy) and said egészségedre (to your health). We exchanged gifts and short speeches. We shared a sumptious supper and prayed together. It was a moment of deepened feelings and the promise of enduring friendships. Click here to read more.

First of the Summer BBQ

Next Wednesday, June 28

6:00 - 8:00 PM in the Parish House Garden

The BBQs are potluck picnics, and we ask that you bring beverages, a salad, or a dessert to share, if possible. The Fallons will provide the hamburgers, veggie burgers, sausages and hot dogs.

Please RSVP to Laura to let her know you're coming and what you will bring.

Note: this BBQ was to also have been a farewell to Gretchen Horton, our Parish Administrator, but that farewell has been postponed. Gretchen will be working with us in a part time capacity through the month of July.

Possible Pilgrimage to Alabama Civil Rights Sites, Fall 2023

We have just learned of three opportunities to visit Montgomery and Selma this fall, one led by the UU Living Legacy group, and two by June Cooper, UCC minister, who would have led the trip some of us had planned to take before its COVID cancellation. We must act soon to have a KC group to travel together, especially for a Cooper trip. The first step is to find out who is seriously interested. To read about the trip details, click here.

If you really hope to go and want to be included in choices and updates, email betsytpete@gmail.com as soon as possible. Let Betsy know if you are interested and if you have a strong preference among these choices.

Father’s Day Piano Concert supports the Louis D Brown Peace Institute

Sunday, June 18, 2:00 PM

King's Chapel members, friends, and community members gathered on Father’s Day for a 4-handed piano concert with Heinrich Christensen and friend Bob Winkley. This musical feast was a benefit for the LDB Peace Institute, honoring fathers, brothers, grandfathers, and all men who suffer loss, and/or are part of the Peace Institute.

The listeners' generous free-will offering will benefit the LDBPI. Click here to make a donation to the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute and click here to learn more about the important work the Peace Institute does for peace and healing in our community.
