From the Minister- Thirst

“I’m thirsty.”

At our Wednesday evening communion service, held in candlelight before the pandemic, our invitation included these words: “If you ever wonder if you are unworthy to receive this bread and cup, remember that on the night he died, Jesus shared these with one who would deny him, one who would doubt him, one who would say he’d never even met him, and in his hour of greatest need, they all would flee, and he knew it. If he were willing to share this meal with the likes of them, surely he is willing to share it with us. So believer or not, Christian or not, saint or sinner, or a little bit of both, all you need to come to this table, is to be thirsty.” I am very thirsty. Are you? Click here to read more.

From the Bench

The choir will sing three different settings of O Vos Omnes (Is it nothing to all you who pass by) as we sink deeper into Lent this week: first, Victoria’s version from the Spanish Renaissance; then Dan Pinkham’s, a movement from his Passion Music; finally, the hauntingly beautiful composition by Pau Casals, better known by his Castilian name Pablo as one of the foremost cellists of the 20th century.

Bach’s birthday is coming up, so Heinrich will play his somber Prelude in c minor to get you in the mood for some serious penitence.

Registrations for Journey to Transylvania

Registration begins Friday, March 10

In 1992-93, when our minister, Rev. Dr. Carl Scovel, delivered two thought-provoking sermons on Transylvania in Eastern Europe, I could not have imagined years later leading the King’s Chapel partner church program, giving two lay sermons on the subject, making a third trip to the birthplace of the Unitarian faith, and promoting parishioner engagement.

Today, we are announcing the registration period begins March 10.

Read more from Denton Crews including journey and registration information, contact information for the newly interested, and links to the sermons.

King's Chapel Concert Series presents

Renaissance Man: Pinkham 100

Sunday, March 26, 5:00 PM

Dan Pinkham was instrumental (and vocal) in the Early Music revival of the 20th century, and gave many American premieres of rediscovered works that had never previously been performed on these shores. Early Music was also a big influence on a lot of his own music. In our final concert of the season, we explore this connection in Renaissance Man, a program consisting of Pinkham juxtaposed with Palestrina, Victoria, Gabrieli, and Gesualdo, and also with more modern contemporaries Poulenc and Hindemith, who shared many of their sensibilities.

As always, you save $5 by purchasing tickets in advance.

 Living Memorial to the Enslaved

The Living Memorial sub-committee of the King’s Chapel Memorial Project has reconvened with the purpose of developing a comprehensive plan for the establishment of the memorial. Our intent is to build upon the thinking reflected in our 2021 report to the congregation, with both the visions for the living memorial shared by some 45 parishioners who responded to the recent congregational inquiry, and the work with the communities impacted by the history of slavery, to guide us forward. Our progress will be shared on a regular basis in Between Sundays as the plan begins to take shape. We invite all parishioners to respond with their thoughts on this and subsequent updates to Cliff Allen, sub-committee chair, at the working link to the Memorial Committee: memorial.committee@kings-chapel.org

Contributing for Easter Flowers
