From the Minister
The order of things often matters – what comes first, second and third. An iconic statement by Jesus read at the Last Supper on the Maundy Thursday is from John 34:
Verse 34a: I give you a new commandment, that you love one another.
Verse 34b: Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another.

Holy Week
The week leading to Easter marks the most somber time in the Christian year .
Maundy Thursday is so named from the Latin word mandatum, which refers to Christ’s command to his disciples to love one another. We commemorate Christ’s last meal with his disciples by celebrating Holy Communion and the ritual of Foot Washing. The service ends with the stripping of the altar.

Good Friday, the day of Christ’s crucifixion, is observed at 12:15 PM with Morning Prayer and a sermon and in the evening with the Office of Tenebrae. The name tenebrae, meaning “darkness,” refers to the darkening of the sky at the time of the crucifixion, and to the darkening of the church during the course of this service.

Thank you, and Save the Date
A note of gratitude to those who participated in the Congregational Conversation hosted by the Memorial Committee last Sunday evening! About fifty interested members of all persuasions joined us for a brief update, video, and, most importantly, conversation reflecting our varied perspectives on the proposed memorial. It was wonderful, not only to hear the comments, but also to see others listening intently and to hear the respectful nature of the exchanges that occurred as a result.
Both the Inquiry Synopsis and/or the video recording of the meeting are available to members upon request via the Committee email memorial.committee@kings-chapel.org. Meanwhile, we are considering your comments in preparation for the next meeting on May 7th at 5:30PM. Please put the date on your calendar and plan to join us!

We pray with Sylvia Soderberg, our former Warden, as she awaits medical advice on issues that have required her hospitalization since last week. We who know and love Sylvia are not surprised that she wants to quickly jump out of the hospital and instantly return to the many ways she serves at King's Chapel. We pray for her medical teams' wisdom and for Sylvia's healing. | |
