If you thought we liked mini-series, you were right! As we look toward our Winter Break marking the official midyear, In Episode 14 of the Through the Looking Glass Podcast, we look to reflect on the first half of the 23-24 academic year.
School life, as in life life, is not a linear experience. Life is disrupted by quakes that force us to respond to these disruptive forces. What does it look like to do that? How does a Head of School bring his reflective self to the table and show up for the community?

Mesibat Chumash

Mazal Tov to our incredible 2nd-grade students who recently marked a significant milestone just before the Thanksgiving Break with their Mesibat Chumash (Chumash Celebration). During this event, each student received their first Chumash, symbolizing their formal initiation into Chumash learning. It's our wish that they continue to expand their personal libraries with Sefarim (Jewish books) and embrace a commitment to lifelong learning. The heartfelt and impressive performance showcased their dedicationāKol Hakavod! We were all impressed by the display of their newfound knowledge and growth. A heartfelt thank you to their exceptional teachers, Morah Chaya and Morah Roza, for their outstanding preparation!

Middle School Retreat
At the annual Middle School Retreat held at Camp Cullen on Lake Livingston, Team Davids (Hamelech and Ben Gurion) battled it out in an exhilarating Color War. The retreat wasn't just about fun; students dove into learning about Israel's first prime minister and the legendary King David, infusing their team pride into everything from songs to lively competitions and Torah discussions.
Rock climbing, target sports, and a cozy bonfire were just some of the awesome activities that kept everyone buzzing with excitement. Away from city life (and homework!), students relished the chance to bond and connect in a way that's only possible outside the classroom. Additionally, the 8th-grade students were treated to an exclusive and memorable nighttime activity, enhancing their retreat experience!

Exploring the U.S. Congress
This week, Mr. Cell's 11th-12th grade U.S. Government class delved into a detailed exploration of the U.S. Congress. The discussions centered around the influence of incumbency, shedding light on their fundraising endeavors and the necessity behind such efforts.

Lighting Up Chanukah
This week Morah Hannaās EC4 class focused on Chanukah and learning numbers. The class learned about the miracle of Chanukah and the children shared what their favorite part of the holiday is. The class began working on Chanukah projects that include 3D dreidels, sun catcher dreidels and menorah water coloring. Students had fun learning numbers through a latke game and a matching popsicle stick game. The class also learned the Hebrew letter Chet for chanukiah. They cut and pasted different beautiful chanukiahs onto their letter Chet. They also learned the letter H for hearts and practiced cutting out and drawing hearts.

Chain Reaction Mania
This week, Ms. Morrison's 4th grade class delved into the fascinating concept of energy transfer between objects. Through an engaging activity, students explored how energy is stored, released, and passed on in chain reactions, using the example of falling dominoes. In the 'Build a Chain Reaction' activity, students embraced an engineering design challenge: crafting their very own chain reaction machine. Armed with a 'Chain-Reaction Starter Kit,' which featured a lever and a ramp as initial components, the students experimented and constructed the first steps of their chain-reaction machines.

Mathketball
This week in Mrs. Rosenzweig's 7th-grade class, students honed their skills in one-step equations through an interactive game called Mathketball. This engaging math game required students to answer multiple questions to earn the chance to shoot mini basketballs. The classroom was filled with excitement as students had a blast practicing their mathematical abilities while enjoying the game.

Chanukah Fun
Morah Aviva's EC4A class began their Chanukah unit this week! The excitement was palpable as the class delved into the captivating story of the Maccabees and the miracles of Chanukah. Among the new center activities is the creative construction of dreidel shapes using Legos while following the dreidel pattern. Adding to the festive ambiance, Morah Aviva curated a special Chanukah sensory table adorned with an array of candles, dreidels, Yehudah Hamaccabee, and a chanukiah. Amidst the celebrations, friends in class enjoyed a lively round of Number Bingo, refreshing their number recognition skills. The class also continued their linguistic exploration by diving into the letters 'Ii' and 'Tet' for tabaat meaning ring, in their Alef Bet books. A collaborative Chanukiah mural became a hands-on highlight, employing diverse materials and textures, proudly displayed on the outdoor classroom bulletin board.

Climate Change
This week, Mr. Simon's third-grade class delved into the topic of climate change. The students enthusiastically engaged in studying this subject and are currently gearing up to create and deliver a presentation showcasing their newfound knowledge.

Pioneering Polarity
This week in Dr. Arnoldās AP Chemistry class, students dived into the captivating world of polarity. Through engaging experiments and discussions, they explored the fascinating concept of polarity in molecules. They investigated the uneven distribution of electrons within compounds and its influence on molecular behavior and interactions.

Parsha Dreams
This week, 1st-grade students in Morah Rachel's Judaic Studies class delved into Parsha Vayetzei, exploring the story of Yaakov dreaming about the ladder and encountering the Malachim (angels). Through engaging lessons and discussions, the class learned about the meanings behind Yaakov's dream and the significance of his encounter with the angels. Adding to the fun, the students had a great time taking their studies outdoors to our magical forest. The class further explored the heroic tales and courageous acts of the Maccabees. They eagerly prepared for Chanukah by crafting candles and reading stories about Jewish resilience and heroism.

Navigating Digital Frontiers
Gen Z is the first generation to go through puberty with portals in their pockets that call them away from real people nearby and into alternative universes that are exciting, addictive, and unstable. How should we as parents navigate this new technological landscape? It is our pleasure to extend an exclusive early invitation to our Jewish Parents Forum community for an exciting event that Tikvahāin partnership with 39 Jewish schools across the countryāis hosting next month. This week in Mrs. Riojas' kindergarten class, students enjoyed a dynamic blend of activities aimed at enhancing their reading and listening skills. Engaging in creative drawing exercises, they explored various approaches to identify and understand numbers in fun and interactive ways.

Better to Serve
Better to Serve hosted an engaging Thanksgiving-themed activity at the Medallion that brought joy and gratitude to all involved. The day commenced with a heartfelt Tefillah dedicated to the state of Israel, the IDF, and hostages, fostering a sense of unity and support. Next, students teamed up with their buddies to create a 'Tree of Thanks,' adorning its leaves with expressions of gratitude for various blessings. Additionally, adorable Thanksgiving Turkey decorations were crafted and placed on the doors of the Medallion seniors' apartments, spreading joy and warmth. The festivities culminated in lively volleyball games that brought everyone together for some active fun. Moreover, the letters penned by the Better to Serve students and seniors at the Medallion were sent to Israel this week, delivering heartfelt messages of support and appreciation to the soldiers.

Chanukah Crafts and Games
Morah Clara's EC3B class is buzzing with excitement as they dive into learning all about Chanukah! The students are immersing themselves in the rich history, discovering the heroic stories of the Maccabees, and savoring delightful traditional foods like latkes and sufganiyot. They are diligently practicing the brachot for lighting the Chanukiah candles and learning many new songs. Engaging in creative activities, they have commenced crafting their Chanukah placemats and beautiful Chanukiahs. The classroom has become a hub of learning and fun with new games that help refine their fine motor skills. From Chanukah puzzles to string games and a playful counting menorah and latkes game, the students are not only enjoying themselves but also sharpening their skills in a joyous Chanukah-themed environment.

Rabbi Ezra Schwartz, the Rosh Yeshiva; Assistant Director of RIETS at Yeshiva University, commended RMBA's participation in the recent rally as a testament to the strong support and concern for Israel within the broader YU community. Dreidels and Latkas
This week in Morah Tsippiās EC2B class, the students dived into the fascinating story of Chanukah and its rich traditions. Their enthusiasm soared as they embarked on their inaugural project, watercolor painting vibrant dreidels. Excitement abounds as they eagerly anticipate more engaging lessons and creative projects in preparation for the upcoming Festival of Lights! Adding to the fun, the class had a blast painting latkes for a giant class frying pan!

Pen-Pal Exchange
This week, the 2nd graders in Ms. Morrison's class were thrilled to receive letters from their 4th grade Pen Pals. They eagerly responded, practicing writing in complete sentences and adopting the friendly letter format. Through this exchange, they're honing their spelling and reading skills while fostering a stronger bond within our school community by connecting different grades. In their letters, the students shared their hobbies and inquired about their Pen Pals' Chanukah plans. This engaging project is set to continue throughout the school year, nurturing lasting connections between classes.

Student Kindness
Hili Kister, a 12th grade student, orchestrated a heartwarming initiative during last weekās lunch, encouraging the middle school students to write letters to our brave chayalim (soldiers). We were very impressed by the phenomenal turnout of our students.

MS Girls Basketball
The MS Girls Basketball team will resume games when they take on Kipp Academy on Tuesday, December 5th at Beren Academy.
MS Boys Basketball
The MS Boys Basketball team will resume games next week when they take on Grace Academy on Monday, December 4th at 4:30.
HS Boys Basketball
The HS Boys Basketball team started their season with some tough defeats. They lost a heart breaker at CHSA by two, but look to bounce back as they open up their district schedule on Monday with an away game at Memorial Lutheran at 5:30.
