Leadership Journey
This week marked the culmination of the Jewish New Teacher Project's Administrator Support Program, in which Ms. Bigham, the lower school general studies principal, has been actively participating. During the final professional development session, leaders took time to reflect on their growth and learning over the past two years. This program brings the nationally recognized professional development of the New Teacher Center to the Jewish day school field. Drawing from NTC's research-based methodologies, coaching strategies, tools, and resources are tailored to meet the specific needs and cultural context of each individual school, ensuring comprehensive support for administrators.

Flexibility Fun
This week, Morah Sandy's EC3A class explored the theme of adapting to change through the book "A Little Spot of Flexible Thinking." Students learned the importance of flexibility by comparing the characteristics of a palm tree, which bends in the wind, to those of a rigid oak tree, which can snap in a storm. They practiced creating backup plans instead of becoming upset, and demonstrated their understanding through a craft activity where they fashioned a flexible palm tree using a pipe cleaner and a rigid oak tree out of a popsicle stick.

In the Science area, they honed their fine motor skills by transferring colored rice with spoons and various-sized cups. Alphabet learning included a Matzah-themed activity for lowercase letter recognition and matching with their uppercase counterparts. Additionally, students explored the letter Kuf in their Alef Bet curriculum, decorating it with monkeys and practicing writing the word "Kof."

This week, in Ms. Morrison's 4th-grade science class, students embarked on an intriguing inquiry: "How can we predict when a storm is approaching?" They explored the differences between fair-weather clouds and storm clouds, while also grasping the importance of wind direction in forecasting whether a rain cloud will move overhead. Additionally, students crafted their own Storm Spotter's Guide, a helpful booklet designed to assist them in using cloud patterns to predict weather changes.
