May is Mental Health Month in Benton County!

Mental Health Month is dedicated to prioritizing our well-being and promoting open conversations about mental health.

The Benton County Health Department recognizes the importance of mental health and its impact on our community.

This year’s theme, Where to Start: Mental Health in a Changing World, reminds us that dealing with life’s pressures can be overwhelming, and everyone deserves to feel supported and empowered to seek help when needed.

Throughout May, the dept. is co-hosting and sponsoring various events and initiatives to raise awareness, encourage self-care, and connect you with resources. These include:

• May 1 – May 30: Mental Health Awareness Month social media campaign. Follow the Health Dept. on Facebook and Nextdoor for free mental health tools and tips you can interact with.
• May 9 – June 1: Artwork by Benton County Behavioral Health participants will be on display at the Corvallis Arts Center.
• May 21: Benton County Board of Commissioners Mental Health Awareness Month Proclamation Reading.
• May 21: Mental Health & the Outdoors – tour the site of a future trail system with the Owens Farm Partnership’s Open House.
• May 25: Minds in Motion: A Positive Mental Health Event for Benton County Youth and their Communities, brought to you by the Benton County Youth Suicide Prevention Coalition.
• May 31: Benton County Children & Family Mental Health Open House.

We encourage you to participate in these activities and engage with us in conversations about mental health.

Returning your ballot:

• Voters' statements on the back of the ballot envelope must be signed by ONLY the voter whose name is printed on the ballot envelope. 
• Place YOUR voted ballot in the signed ballot envelope and seal it.
• Mail or deliver the SIGNED and sealed ballot envelope.

Your ballot must be received at the Elections Office no later than 8:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time on May 21, 2024; or it must be postmarked no later than May 21 and be received at the office of the county clerk no later than 7 calendar days after the date of the election.

Benton County Emergency Management Programs collaborate on wildfire evacuation drill

The City of Corvallis and Benton County Emergency Management programs are pleased to announce their collaboration on a wildfire evacuation drill for Benton County on Saturday, May 18, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. 

The County's Temporary Evacuation Point (TEP) is the Kalapuya Building on SW Research Way, Corvallis. *PLEASE note the Kalapuya Building Ballot Box will remain accessible to the public, however delays could occur. The City’s TEP will be the Northwest Hills Community Church on Walnut in Corvallis. The drills will involve Community Emergency Response Team volunteers to ensure a coordinated and effective response. 

The drill will serve as a valuable opportunity for residents and emergency responders to practice wildfire evacuation procedures and test communication systems. It is part of ongoing efforts to enhance emergency preparedness in Benton County. 

Participating households have been provided detailed information about the exercise. Community members may notice additional traffic in the area as the evacuation drill gets underway.

Unless there is an emergency, neighbors are advised to not call 9-1-1. Please contact the Benton County Call Center at 541-766-6200 with questions about the drill.

Benton County Victim Assistance Program commemorates National Crime Victims’ Rights Week

The Benton County District Attorney’s Victim Assistance Program held a commemorative ceremony in honor of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, on April 22 at the Benton County Courthouse.

National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, observed from April 21 to April 27, 2024, serves as a reminder of the significance of providing support, options, and hope for those affected by crime. The theme for 2024 urges us all—friends, family members, neighbors, colleagues, community leaders, victim service providers, criminal justice practitioners, and health professionals—to reflect on our readiness to assist crime victims.

This position performs routine preventative and corrective maintenance to ensure that building systems run functionally and efficiently. Work includes maintenance and preventative maintenance of electrical & mechanical systems; and construction including, framing, sheet rocking, painting; labor and assisting Building Maintenance Technician II in major project work. This position also performs custodial and landscaping duties as needed.
