In observance of Independence Day, the Town of Bennett will be closed for services on July 4, 2024. Regular hours of operation will resume on Monday, July 8th.
If you plan to celebrate the 4th of July, please be considerate of those around you in our community. Fireworks are known to negatively affect children, pets, and combat veterans. If you choose to use fireworks, keep them away from homes/structures, dry grass and anything flammable.

Reminders from the Arapahoe County Sheriff
|
On average, the Arapahoe County 911 dispatch center receives 700-800 calls per day. Those numbers nearly double on the Fourth of July.
If you’re not sure when to call, you can always call our non-emergency number at 303-795-4711. If you do call in, remember the voice you hear on the other end of the line is a person who is trying their best to help everyone on the busiest day of the year. Please be polite and understanding, it can go a long way. Let’s help our dispatchers and deputies during one of the toughest holidays and keep our phone lines open for real emergencies.

The Town of Bennett is currently conducting a Housing Needs Assessment and is asking for public feedback.
The goal of this project is to identify tools, strategies and recommendations for developing affordable housing that meets the needs of the Bennett community and for preserving the existing stock of moderately-priced housing units.
Other desired outcomes from the Housing Needs Assessment can be found here.
Bennett residents are being asked to fill out this brief survey so the Town and the consulting team can have a better understanding of the existing housing inventory, what housing will be needed for the workforce, how the Bennett housing market has affected residents and what types of housing residents wish were available.
Participate in the survey here.

Town of Bennett and Bennett-Watkins Fire Rescue Enhance Safety Measures at Palmer Avenue Intersection
|
The Town of Bennett and the Bennett-Watkins Fire Rescue team have taken significant steps to enhance safety at the intersection of Palmer Avenue and Adams Street, specifically at the railroad crossing.
In partnership with the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), three new safety signs have been installed to address potential hazards. The signs state “Do Not Stop on Tracks” for southbound traffic and “Do Not Block Intersection.”
The signs were installed with the hope of preventing accidents and ensuring a smooth traffic flow around the Union Pacific Railroad tracks. The signs are an important reminder to stay aware of their surroundings and adhere to traffic safety rules.
“While the installation of the signs might seem small, it is an important safety reminder to our community and we want to ensure the safety of this intersection while motorists are driving and in the event of emergencies when the fire district needs to respond,” said Town Manager, Trish Stiles.
The added signage aims to increase awareness and improve safety twofold - firstly, related to the dangers and risks associated with vehicles being stopped on railroad tracks; and secondly, when this intersection is blocked, it has negative impacts to timely emergency responses from the nearby fire station.
“We are thankful to both the Town and CDOT for their roles in promptly addressing imminent public safety concerns in this area,” said Assistant Fire Chief, Caleb Connor, “The addition of the signage in this area to improve citizen awareness to these issues is a true collaborative win for public safety within the Town.”

Tips For Being Water-Wise
|
Warmer temperatures have arrived. It is important to take care of yards and landscaping while also staying water-wise.
Here are some helpful tips:
- Do not water between the hours of 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Water during cooler times of the day.
- Change your sprinkler clock/schedule to limit each zone to 10-15 minutes every other day, no more than three days a week. If you are seeing run-off leaving your irrigated area, you are likely over watering.
- Adjust sprinkler heads to ensure only intended landscaped areas are being watered.
- Do not water on days that rain or high winds are in the forecast.
- If installing new irrigated landscaping, wait for early fall or spring and consider water-wise plants that use less water over time.
- Do not allow water to pool in gutters, streets and alleys.
- Do not waste water by letting it spray on concrete and asphalt.
- Repair leaking sprinkler systems within 10 days.
- Use a hose nozzle with a shut-off valve when washing your car.
Please visit our website for more information.

Did you know that some products claiming to be flushable are not really flushable and can wreak havoc on waste systems, causing sewage back-ups.
Items that can cause clogged pipes include grease from melted fat, clothing, paper towels, cat litter, diapers and personal hygiene products. Drano can also be very hard on your pipes.
Please be cautious and conscientious of what you are putting down your drain. When in doubt, throw it out!
