Comprehensive Safety Action Plan – Safe Streets for All
The Town of Bennett is conducting a study to assess the Town’s transportation network to identify and prioritize transportation safety improvements in a Comprehensive Safety Action Plan (CSAP). The study is being funded by a United States Department of Transportation Safe Streets and Roads for All Action Plan Grant. The plan’s goal is to support local initiatives to prevent fatalities and serious injury on roads and streets for all users.
To develop the plan, the study team will collaborate with stakeholders to establish a vision and set goals. Then, the team will identify cost-effective, implementable strategies that align with the Town’s goals and address known safety issues. These strategies will include systemic safety countermeasures integrated into routine maintenance, future roadway development and capital projects.
After the CSAP has been adopted, it will guide the Town of Bennett, and potential partners at the county and state levels, to apply for grant funds to implement improvements. Because of the importance of community input in the process, the study team will engage with the community during all three study phases.
To join the mailing list or for more information about this study, please visit the project page here.

Landscape Code and Landscaping Reminders
|
While we are experiencing high temperatures, it is important to take care of your landscaping and stay water-wise.
Watering tips:
- Do not water between the hours of 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
- Water during cooler times of the day.
- Limit each sprinkler zone to 10 - 15 minutes every other day, no more than three days a week.
- Do not water on days that rain or high winds are in the forecast.
Landscaping reminders:
- Weeds should not be allowed to grow more than 6’’ tall. This includes areas such as alleyways, culverts, adjoining sidewalks and vacant lots.
- Weeds that are visible in ground cover such as rock and mulch should be addressed.
- Keep your trees and other vegetation clear of public streets.
The Board of Trustees recently approved an ordinance updating Chapter 16 of the Bennett Municipal Code concerning landscape standards. There are seven principles of water-wise landscaping:
- Planning and design for water conservation, beauty and utility
- Improving soil
- Appling efficient irrigation
- Limiting turf to high traffic, essential areas
- Selecting plants that have low water demand
- Applying mulch
- Maintaining the landscape
The goals of the landscape code update include reducing use of potable (drinking) water for irrigating landscaping, minimizing use of turf grass that needs watering, defining where artificial grass would be allowed and restricted, encouraging low water use hybrid grasses, incorporating new standards and definitions from the latest State legislation relating to landscaping and using the seven key principals to guide the Town’s landscape standards.
