Town of Bennett Safety Services Update

The Town of Bennett is committed to the safety of our residents. After careful consideration, the Town is shifting law enforcement services to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s office to encompass all of incorporated Bennett.

Town Officials and the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office have been working diligently to complete an Intergovernmental Agreement as expeditiously as possible. We expect an agreement to be approved in the month of March with the goal of services beginning in the month of April.

Residents can expect continued emergency safety services throughout this transition process.

For more information regarding safety services in the Town of Bennett can be found online here.

Upcoming Election Canceled And Candidates Declared Elected

Graphic that says Board of Trustees Update

In April 2024, the positions of Mayor and four trustees will be available. Nomination petitions were available to candidates from January 2, 2024 to January 22, 2024. The Town Clerk’s Office received four petitions for the Office of Trustee and one petition for the Office of Mayor. All petitioners met the qualifications to run for the office of mayor and/or trustee.

Because the number of nominees equaled the number of available positions, the Board of Trustees canceled the April 2, 2024 election and elected Whitney Oakley to the Office of Mayor and Denice Smith, Donna Sus, Royce Pindell and Larry Vittum to the Office of Trustee.

The new mayor and trustees will take the oath of office during the April 9, 2024 regular meeting.

Project Update - I-70 Ramp Improvements

Graphic with drone image of I -70 and words saying project update I-70 ramp improvements

Crews will be working this week to install the new signal at the I-70 interchange. During construction there may be brief traffic delays and we ask for your patience.

Following installation of the mast arms and the signals, crews will test the lights by flashing the signals. After testing is complete, the lights will be fully operational.

All construction schedules are weather dependent and subject to change.

Follow the Town of Bennett on Facebook or Instagram for the latest project updates.

The goal of this project is to increase safety and efficiency for all those who travel through the area.

Funding for this project comes partially from the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and subregional funding.

Bennett Artist Illustrates Children's Book

Bennett resident, Mikayla Zerr-Lockwood had the opportunity to combine three of her major interests when she was asked to illustrate Thunder the Wonder Raccoon by S. J. Reisner. Mikayla has always loved to draw and she has a strong appreciation for the outdoors. She is currently pursuing a degree in early childhood education.

During the illustration process, Mikayla appreciated the creative freedom to visually represent the story of Thunder and the kids that Thunder encounters. The 17 pages of illustration took her about six months to complete.

Get a copy of Thunder the Wonder Raccoon from online booksellers to see the finished project and enjoy a lesson about living alongside wild creatures.

Get To Know Our Team

Say hello to Accounting Clerk, Noelia! Noelia a joy to work with and she is a proud Bennett resident.

Where are you from?

I am from Compton, CA, but I consider myself from Colorado because we moved here when I was 11 years old.

How long have you worked for the Town?

I will celebrate two years with the Town in April.

What do you do for the Town?

I send out payments, keep track of grants, work with the vendors on our contracts, and reconcile accounts among many other tasks. I really enjoy all aspects of my job but I must say, my favorite number is zero! The joy I get when I see this number is unreal.

What would you like to share with the community?

We moved to Bennett six years ago and I have really enjoyed being part of my kids’ sports and activities from the Escaramuza (Mexican side saddle) that my daughter is part of, to Cub Scouts, baseball, football and basketball with my sons. I really appreciate our amazing community.
