MAKE AN IMPACT CAMPAIGN UPDATE

Thank you to all of our generous donors who contributed to our Make an Impact Fall Fundraising campaign! We are still waiting on employer matching funds to roll in, but as of today we have raised close to $20,000! This is a great start towards our fundraising efforts for the year – our annual goal is to raise $70,000 to fully fund our PTSA initiatives that support our students, staff, and community.

Keep an eye out for future fundraising events and campaigns in the new year!

Thank you all for your support!

We try hard to include all donors in our honor roll. We really appreciate your generosity – if you donated through an employee portal or have mailed a check please email us at fundraising@bellevuehighptsa.com and we will add you to the Wolverine Honor Roll.

Thank you so much for your support!

GET INVOLVED! VOLUNTEER!

Are you looking to get involved in the PTSA? We have shuffled a few of our Executive Board positions, and we need a new Secretary for the duration of the 2023/2024 school year.

This is a fantastic way to learn more about the school, learn what is going on, meet other parents, and help the school function smoothly and effectively.

Secretary – PTSA Executive Committee

Responsible for taking meeting minutes at the Board and General meetings.

Distributing meeting minutes after each meeting and following up on action items.

This is a great time to get involved with Bellevue High School!!!

PTSA NOMINATING COMMITTEE

It is almost the end of 2023, and we can't believe how quickly time is flying by - so quickly that we are already thinking about next year's PTSA Board and are looking to put our NOMINATING COMMITTEE together.

The Nominating Committee serves a critical role by identifying and nominating individuals to serve on the 2024-2025 PTSA Executive Board and Board of Directors. The success of the PTSA in supporting our school and community relies on the passion, dedication, and diversity of our volunteers, and the Nominating Committee helps find the right people for the right job!

We are looking for individuals who are friendly, inquisitive, and like getting together for coffee or tea and meeting new people. If this sounds like you, or if you would like more information about the committee, please fill out the short form found here and we will reach out to connect!

Have a great week!

I-CONNECT DOCUMENTARY SCREENING

The rigors of applying to college will be the focus at a special PTSA I-Connect screening of the captivating documentary “Try Harder!” on the evening of February 6 in the Bellevue High School (BHS) Performing Arts Center. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. A panel discussion immediately follows the film. All BHS families are invited.

Synopsis of “Try Harder!”:

At Lowell High School, the top public high school in San Francisco, the seniors are stressed out. As they prepare for the emotionally draining college application process, students are keenly aware of the intense competition for the few open spots in their dream colleges. At Lowell — where cool kids are nerds, nearly everyone has an amazing talent, and most of the student body is Asian American — the things that usually make a person stand out can feel commonplace. With humor and heart, director Debbie Lum captures the reality of the American college application process, and the intersection of class, race, and educational opportunity as young adults navigate an ever-demanding rite of passage. (Running time: 85 minutes)

Guest speakers:

Yvonne Chiu, Assistant Admissions Director, University of Washington (UW)

Ms. Chiu, who oversees freshman recruitment, is currently in the midst of reviewing applications submitted to UW for Fall 2024. As the parent of a high school senior herself, she offers unique insights from both sides of the admissions office door. Ms. Chiu has a B.A. from Dartmouth College and earned her Master of Science in Education degree from the University of Pennsylvania.

Benjamin Liu, Alumni Interviewer for Princeton University; Founder and CEO, Devblock Technologies

After graduating from Bellevue’s Newport High School, Mr. Liu entered Princeton at the age of 17. On his college applications, he listed these credentials: National Merit semi-finalist, top-ten nationally ranked tennis player, state doubles champion, and concert pianist with the Seattle Symphony and Seattle Youth Symphony. Having lived through what he calls a “quintessential ‘tiger’ upbringing,” Mr. Liu shares his perspectives on trying to strike the right balance when parenting his own children.

Each student who reports 100 or more approved hours will earn the Wolverine Guard Community Service Award. During the last school year, WG had 98 Bellevue High students earn a Wolverine Guard certificate for the 2022-2023 school year!

  • ALL BHS students from 9-12 grades are eligible for WG should they meet the requirements.
