The search for the Beerdrinker of the Year by Wynkoop Brewingis finishing up. The 10 semi-finalists have been selected. For the second year in a row I have made the top ten. There will be 3 finalists that will be flown to Denver for the finals on February 25th. The

announcement will be made this week......

Craft Beer Comes to MCI

My 'six pack' of craft beer classes has been rescheduled at the Miami Culinary Institute. The class is "Craft Beer with Beer Expert Larry Goeser". The classes will be on Thursdays 6 - 8 PM from February 2 through March 8. Classes can be taken individually. More details and class registration are on the class homepage.

Jupiter Brewfest Jan 27- 28

Wrap up South Florida Beer Week at the best beer festival in South Florida. The size is limited and the beer selection is great. On Friday night, the 27th, the Field of Beers will occur with 16 stations each with a beer / brewer and food / chef paired together. This event is SOLD OUT. Watch the video from last year HERE. On Saturday January 28th, the Brewfest is from 1 to 5:30 PM. Walk up tickets will be available. Information and tickets located at the Festival Webpage.

Cervezas is hosting a Cigars and Cigar City Beer pairing event on Wednesday January 25.

More Beer Week

Laser Wolf Will have a Florida tap takeover on Thursday January 26th. Cigar City and Swamphead Brewing will both be there.

Due South Brewing opening soon in Boynton Beach. They will be at the Jupiter Brewfest and opening shortly after.

The World of Beer has two locations opening in Kendall; Dadeland and Town & Country Mall. Both should be open by April.

2012 is off to a great start, beer wise. Last week I received the news that I am one of the ten semifinalists in Wynkoop Brewing's Beerdrinker of the Year contest. The contest seeks to find "Americas most passionate, knowledgeable beer lovers and beer ambassadors." This is the second year that I have made the semifinalist list. In the next week the three finalists will be notified and win a trip to Denver for the finals February 25, 2012. Accommodations and airfare are included. I am keeping my fingers crossed! Meanwhile here in south Florida the first "South Florida Beer Week" is upon us. There are many different events both large and small. Be sure to check the South Florida Beer Week Blog for more details.

The craft beer scene, in Florida, is really picking up steam. There are new breweries coming on line and several older established breweries as well. The new beer week events all feature Florida breweries. A few years ago the Florida beer selections would have been limited; now there is a much better selection. These beers are better and styles more numerous. It is great to see the "Drink Local" movement including actual Florida beers; many producing quality craft beers that will, someday, become regional favorites. The growth in craft beer variety and availability continues and all beer drinkers should rejoice!
