BAEF Announces New Director

I am so excited to have been chosen as the new Director for the Bedford Area Educational Foundation. As a product of the Bedford County Public School System, I feel very connected to our diverse communities and am looking forward to increasing the support we give our teachers and students.

I have had the privilege to teach in the classroom and the community since 2010 to just about every learning style one can imagine. Preaching to the choir, it takes a lot of energy to match each and every students' learning style. Then grading. Policies and Procedures. Balancing professionalism and being a confidant. Classroom management. Committees.

It's a lot of work to support every student in reaching their unique potential. And it is the most rewarding work that cannot be done alone. This is where the grants awarded by the BAEF are so very important; to show teachers they are respected, encouraged and supported.

I am truly looking forward to working with our teachers and their advocates in each of the 22 schools in Bedford County! Please feel to reach out to me at any time with your ideas for partnerships. I would genuinely love to hear from you.

Most Gratefully,

Jay

News from

Debby Allen, BAEF Board Chair

Hello everyone! On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Bedford Area Educational Foundation, I am pleased to report that our new Director and I were able to attend Bedford County's Teacher of the Year Awards Ceremony. This wonderful event was held on March 2 at Boonsboro Country Club.

The BAEF was able to honor each of the 22 Teachers of the Year with a $250 grant that may be used for classroom supplies. Did you know that teachers often spend over $750 per year out of their own pockets for classroom supplies? We were honored to be able to help offset these costs, thanks to the generosity of our donors.

I also want to take this opportunity to thank Ryan Edwards, the former Public Relations Coordinator for BCPS, for his years of service to our Board and the teachers and students of Bedford County. Ryan recently retired and we are so thankful for his efforts on our behalf. We send a big welcome to Kristen Borak, who will be representing BCPS on our Board.

It was also wonderful to be in the home of Board Member Sara Braaten and her husband, Bruce, for a Meet and Greet with BCPS Superintendent Dr. Marc Bergin. Our Board members enjoyed a nice gathering and presentation by Dr. Bergin. We are grateful to Sara and Bruce for having us in their lovely home and Dr. Bergin for his remarks and spirit of collaboration.

In closing, you all may know that our annual corporate sponsor drive is currently underway. If you are a business owner who would like to make a donation to support the grants we award our teachers and students, please reach out to our Director or visit the link I have shared. Thank you!

Have a wonderful summer!

Debbie
