NJ Compost Operator Certification Course

September 19-20, 2024 | $325

Day 1: 8:30am – 3:00pm EDT | New Brunswick, NJ

Day 2: 9:30am – 11:30am EDT | In-person site visit, Hamilton Twp.

This two-day in-person class meets the requirements of N.J.A.C. 7:26A - 1.4(a)(14)(xiv), which states that all operators of composting facilities in New Jersey must attend a composting course approved by the NJDEP.

 

You will learn how to improve your compost facility's operation with instructions on the following topics:

 

  • NJDEP Regulatory Requirements
  • The Scientific Principles of Composting, or “Why Compost Happens”
  • How to Avoid the “Murphy’s Law” of Composting and What to Do When the Law Strikes (Health and Odor Issues)
  • and much more!


You must attend both days of the class to receive a Certificate of Completion.

Continuing Education Credits

This in-person course is approved for the following continuing education credits: 


NJ Certified Recycling Professionals (CRP): 8 Classroom Recertification credits


NJ Certified Public Works Managers (CPWM): 4 Management and 4 Government


NJ Licensed Professional Engineers (PE): 8 CPCs


NJ Health Officers and REHS: pending

Wayne DeFeo is the founder of DeFeo Associates, a full service environmental consulting firm. He is an NJDEP Certified Compost Facility Operator, member of the US Composting Council, and brings more than 25 years of experience in the recycling/solid waste field to the classroom. NOTICE

Upcoming CRP License Deadline!


To maintain your Certified Recycling Professional (CRP) certification, you must obtain twenty (20) hours of recertification credits every two years. The recertification deadline for most CRPs is December 31, 2024.


Check the date on your CRP identification wallet card. Then, review Rutgers' calendar of expert-taught classes and register for the training courses you need before your certification expires.
