Welcome to the fall 2016 edition of Beautiful Places, Keep America Beautiful's quarterly e-newsletter.
Keep America Beautiful believes that
recycling is something we can all agree on. And what better time of year to be in agreement than today --
America Recycles Day, the only nationally-recognized day dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling in the United States. In fact, we received an American Recycles Day
Presidential Proclamation!
There are many actions each of us can take to reduce our environmental impact and support a clean, green and beautiful community. One of the easiest actions to take every day is to recycle. Together, we can commit to the 'Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.' mantra in every aspect of our lives and continue to build momentum for recycled materials that can be used to manufacture new products, "giving our garbage another life." Our plastic bottles can become a pair of jeans; our aluminum cans can become a bike.
It all starts with putting more of the right recyclable items in the right place -- and committing to do so today. We hope you'll take the
#BeRecycled Pledge, participate in the
#BeRecycled Sweepstakes (details below), and choose to live a recycled lifestyle every day.
With this in mind, Keep America Beautiful wants to thank you for your efforts to recycle on America Recycles Day and every day -- at home, at work or school, and on the go in our nation's beautiful public spaces. Keep in mind, it's still not too late to register an event or participate in an event near you!
Recycling is just one step in helping Keep America Beautiful "Do Beautiful Things." As you'll see in our new video, created by New York-based marketing agency Oberland, the vivid, fast-paced video reinforces our message to you with the tagline: "We Keep America Beautiful, so Americans can do beautiful things."
Let's do beautiful things together. Let's recycle!

Keep America Beautiful Unveils Results of National Recycling Survey
While the majority of consumers believe many of the issues related to recycling have improved since the 1970s, such as "ease of recycling" and the "amount of waste" that is recycled, most consumers feel the amount of waste in landfills and oceans is worse, according to the first "Consumer Tracker Recycling Survey," released today by Keep America Beautiful and Natural Marketing Institute (NMI), a national market research firm.
Keep America Beautiful Honors Honeywell with its 2016
Vision for America Award
Keep America Beautiful honored Honeywell and its Chairman and CEO, David M. Cote, with the
2016 Vision for America Award in New York City in October. The Award was presented to Cote by Dinner Co-Chairs Kenneth M. Jacobs, chairman & CEO, Lazard, and Blair Effron, partner and co-founder of Centerview Partners. Among the many highlights of the event was the presentation by our National
Youth Advisory Council alumnus, Laine Rumreich, who is now a freshman at The Ohio State University. Laine spoke eloquently about her volunteer experiences with her local affiliate Keep Indianapolis Beautiful as well as her participation with Keep America Beautiful's YAC. Thanks to the tremendous support of the Dinner Co-Chairs and Keep America Beautiful Board Chairman Howard Ungerleider of The Dow Chemical Company, the dinner was the best attended in a decade.
Keep America Beautiful Community Impact Grants
Over the summer and fall, our network of affiliates are busy implementing hundreds of Keep America Beautiful Community Impact Grants they receive. The recipients of the Dr Pepper Snapple Group Park Recycling Bin Grant Program were announced in August with more than 50 grants provided to help collect cans and bottles in park settings. Keep America Beautiful's second year of the Anheuser-Busch Community Restoration Grant Program was also announced in August with four affiliates receiving $10,000 grants to enable them to restore public areas that have been damaged or completely destroyed by natural disasters. The Keep America Beautiful/Lowe's Community Partners Grant Program, announced in October, awarded grants to 40 affiliates for high-impact service projects in which local Lowe's stores and Lowe's Heroes employee volunteers will be involved. Moreover, Lowe's renewed its national sponsorship support for the 2017 Great American Cleanup. Finally, Keep America Beautiful and The Coca-Cola Company announced on America Recycles Day they will be distributing 4,518 bins to colleges, universities, local governments and nonprofits in 30 states through the Coca-Cola/Keep America Beautiful Public Space Recycling Bin Grant Program. The recycling bins are made possible through a grant from The Coca-Cola Foundation, the philanthropic arm of The Coca-Cola Company.
