Campus Procedure Update

After reviewing our current campus safety procedures, we’ve determined that to improve campus safety we need to make sure that gates and exterior doors are secured. Beginning this week we are going to be closing the gates between buildings that enter into our campus at 8:45 am, as well as the entrances at either end of the main building. Main Building access will only be from the center entrance. If you arrive on campus after 8:45 am, you will need to enter campus from the administration building. This is a big shift so as we transition to this new procedure we will have a campus monitor at the gate between the main building and world language building at 8:45 am this week.

Campus Volunteers Needed

School staff continues to review and uphold safety procedures.

Thank you for following our current campus safety protocols by signing in at the front office before coming onto campus; and thank you for your partnership in keeping our students, staff and campus safe.

I have had some great conversations and suggestions from parents over the last couple weeks regarding safety. Since the gate procedures are new and our staff is investing a significant amount of time and people power to keep gates closed to the best of our ability, we welcome any volunteer support you are willing to give to help us. Make sure that you are cleared through our district Be a Mentor Volunteer System, and we will gladly have you help us supervise throughout the day. Please share your interest on the attached form.

2 More weeks of school and only 2 Bear Facts to get the EPIC Grad Night 2023 Music Festival ready. I want to highlight the volunteer efforts of countless parents, spearheaded by Holly Frankenberger and Cyndee Hagen (an Alumni parent), that are the Grad Night Team. Hours of planning, building, painting, organizing and creating, contributing with time and energy as much as their day time commitments allow. Cal is unique in joint efforts to keep the cost of the ticket down, while still realizing the ultimate fest.  In essence the Grad Night is a proof of the many volunteers that work behind the scenes at school all year long, and make so much more possible that our school would be able to offer to students. THANK YOU CAL HIGH COMMUNITY

Summer is the Perfect Time for Reflections (Art)

Does your child like to create? Do they love making art using different materials, equipment or with their body? If so, PTA’s Reflections Art Program will be the perfect project for them this summer! Reflections provides an opportunity for students to express themselves creatively and to receive recognition for original works of art. Because they don’t need to submit their creations to your school’s PTA until this fall, they can use the summer to plan and create their masterpiece that will express this year’s theme: "I Am Hopeful Because…”

They can show their creativity in any of the following categories:

  • Dance Choreography
  • Film Production
  • Literature
  • Music Composition
  • Photography
  • Visual Arts

For more information on the Reflections Art Program and participation rules, please go to SRVCPTA’s Reflections Webpage, or contact Council Reflections Chair, Susanna Ordway at reflections@srvcouncilpta.org.

May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

Celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Though the terms Asian American and Pacific Islander are often grouped together, each on its own represents a vast range of nations, ethnic groups, cultures, histories, and experiences. This rich diversity is reflected in Asian American and Pacific Islander students.

Honoring each student’s unique identity means learning, teaching, and celebrating the diversity of communities with roots in Asia and the Pacific Islands. It also means taking a stand to support Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders within our schools and communities. With reports of anti-Asian hate crimes rising rapidly since 2019, it is ever more urgent to stand with our Asian American students, colleagues, and neighbors. As we work to ensure all students receive an excellent and equitable education, we must create safe, inclusive communities while denouncing and rooting out bias and hate. Regardless of their role, all adults in education play an important role in this work. https://asianpacificheritage.gov/
