Berryessa Art Festival Was Amazing!

We had a great time at the Berryessa Art Festival this weekend. Thousands of people from the community came out to shop local vendors, eat, drink, dance, and soak up the sunshine!

I'm so proud of my office staff, who took over all aspects running the festival when we found out there were not plans to throw the event this year. I know how important the festival is to our community. From rebranding and promoting, to volunteer team building, vendor coordination and logistics, my team hit it out of the park! Extra thanks to Hugo Jimenez and Angela Pedrigal for their tireless efforts. Without them, our Berryessa community would have gone without this great annual tradition.

Angela Pedrigal and Hugo Jimenez worked day and night leading up the Berryessa Art Festival to organize over 100 booths, and 80+ volunteers. Hugo and Angela were awarded Congressional recognition from the office of Representative Ro Khanna.

Plenty of shady spots to catch a breather and eat amazing bites from the food trucks.

Choirs, string sections, horns, and bands! The stage was bursting with music all day!

Food and refreshment was provided by some really great food trucks!

We had a great group of volunteers helping to keep the refreshments flowing on a very sunny afternoon.

Temps soared to 90 degrees! And it's not even officially summer yet. Here, as the day was just getting started, some festival goers were perusing the vendor booths.

We were joined by SJPD Chief Anthony Mata, Mayor Matt Mahan, and representatives from the offices of Rep Ro Khanna, Senator Aisha Wahab, Supervisor Otto Lee, and Assemblymember Alex Lee.

Over 100 festival goers stopped by the Local Color booth to add their strokes to a collaborative painting.

Mayor Mahan managed to fit BeArt23 into his very busy schedule, stopping by to talk with members of the community and thanking the volunteers and organizers for putting together such a great event!

The festival was a blast for kids and grownups of all ages!

The 47th Annual Berryessa Art Festival 2024 will take place the Saturday before Mother's Day at Penitencia Creek Park. Mark your calendars for May 11, 2024!

Thanks again to our sponsors, without whom we could not have had such a great festival! See you next year!

Abandoned and Illegally Parked Cars

This past council meeting, I led the effort to improve the way the City deals with abandoned and illegally parked vehicles.

In my memo, I listed ways we can better address this problem, like improving the enforcement and compliance of the 72-hour parking limit, placing more visible warning messages on vehicles, expanding the Free Unwanted Car Pickup program, as well as continuing proactive patrolling for abandoned vehicles.

I also encouraged city staff to provide more courteous responses and add an appeal/rebuttal option to our SJ 311 app when residents report vehicle blight. Street sweeping has been prevented because of vehicle blight, so I included recommendations to improve our street sweeping process with communications in multiple languages and alternating sweeping schedules.
