UHS Staff Highlight: Molly Anderson, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Molly Anderson, RN, ANP, PMHNP has served as a psychiatric nurse practitioner in Counseling and Psychological Services since 2012. Molly loves to listen: "Hearing people's stories and helping them to make sense of what they're going through gives me great joy." When she's not at work she's playing the ukulele and spending time with her daughter. Watch her #TangTip to hear her advice for students and view her full staff highlight profile
Sexual Assault Awareness Month

Since the 1980s, April has been designated as a month dedicated to sexual assault awareness. Join us for the Take Back the Night celebration at UC Berkeley on Wednesday, April 19, 5-7pm, Upper Sproul. Wear jeans with a purpose on Wednesday, April 26 for Denim Day. Survivor Support is a centralized space where everyone at UC Berkeley and the community can learn sexual assault prevention and response resources and education. Learn more about Sexual Assault Awareness Month at Berkeley, join the movement on Facebook, and share with #UCBSAAM.
UHS Statement on Trans Rights

At University Health Services, we believe trans rights are human rights. The president's recent actions do not change California state law, which grants transgender students the right to use public facilities that align with their gender identity, and it doesn't change our commitment to protecting and providing equal rights and services to our transgender students. We will continue to advocate for progressive health practices and services to support the needs of our transgender community here at Berkeley. Please see our Pride and Trans web pages for additional resources. We stand with our partners at GenEq in support of the trans community.

Ask the Dietitian: Home Cooking
Q:

I know home cooking is cheaper and healthier than restaurant food, but cooking for myself is intimidating. What should I make?

A: I have a confession to make: It took me nearly 20 years to be a confident cook. I didn't find my healthy meal planning groove until fairly recently. And I'm still learning!

Now, I use one ridiculously simple tool to guide my meals at home...continue reading Toby's method for making balanced meals at home.

When Current Events Impact Mental Health
Recent acts of violence, increases in hate crimes, discrimination against marginalized communities, changes to national policies, and the current political climate have caused many students to experience distress, regardless of their political viewpoint. We value our diverse and global community and are committed to supporting the personal development and academic success of all Berkeley students.

  • Fertility preservation for transgender students and those with medical necessity.
  • Dental annual max increased to $2000.

PartySafe Hydration Hype Squad
The Hydration Hype Squad is a group of high energy students who have a passion for water and public safety. They've attended some parties this semester, drew attention to the hydration stations, engaged party goers on the benefits of tap water and how it can enhance their party experience, and supported guests who choose not to drink alcohol. They'll be at multiple parties on Cal Day, so if you see them around - give them a high five or tell them how much you love water, and get some free water swag!
Health Worker Tip: Local Gems
Spring is here! It's the perfect weather to be outdoors to soak in all that beautiful California sun before we get bogged down in the books during RRR week. There are many places around Berkeley you can visit to enjoy the beauty that the nature has to offer. Check out our three favorite outdoor destinations in/around Berkeley.
Lab Week is April 23-29
Since lab professionals often work behind the scenes, few people know that the critical testing they perform every day saves lives, reduces morbidity, and helps control the cost of care. Learn more and meet the Tang lab staff.
