October is National Physical Therapy Month

UHS Physical Therapists
Physical therapists treat pain through movement and exercise, helping patients improve strength, flexibility, and range of motion. Physical therapists also educate their patients about pain, which is known to improve outcomes. This year's PT month campaign focuses on how physical therapy can be used as a safe alternative to opioids for pain management. Learn more at MoveForwardPT.com and by following #ChoosePT.

Our physical therapists have expertise in a variety of specialty areas, including sports medicine, ergonomics, manual therapy, hand therapy and orthotics. Find out more about  Physical Therapy at Tang , and get to know all of  our experienced physical therapists .
Staff Highlight: Liz Nguyen, Physical Therapist
Watch Liz's #TangTip for students on the importance of movement throughout the day

Liz Nguyen, PT, DPT has been a physical therapist at Tang since 2011. She sees students as well as faculty and staff, and loves the diversity of her patient population.  Liz stresses the importance of movement throughout the day: "Take frequent breaks from sitting to move around, stretch, stand and walk. It helps to reduce muscle tension and decompress your spine." Watch Liz's #TangTip video to hear the rest of her advice, and read her full Staff Highlight profile here

Avoiding cultural appropriation on Halloween
Health Worker Tip: Even when we are going through our daily ordeals, it is so easy to ignore the inherent privilege and power that we have. But this becomes especially evident during Halloween when our desire to have fun borders on risking fetishization and racism. This Halloween, let's really consider the possible impact that our costumes could have on others before putting it on!  Here's a great article written by a fellow Golden Bear on the kinds of questions one should be asking when choosing a costume.
