A Word From Our President
It’s been another busy month for the Bay Area Chamber. Great crowds at our breakfast and the Legislative Luncheon. It’s great to get back to more normal attendance at all our events. The staff has been working hard on the Bloody Mary Brunch Summer Kickoff on May 20th.

We are moving forward on the Talent Attraction and Retention Initiative. We are in the process of working with the City and County to finalize funds. We are excited to welcome Phil Eich, who has started working for the Chamber as Director of Marketing and Placemaking. We have also hired Marlana Cork as Director of Workforce Development, who will be starting with us May 16. I am sure you’ll see these two at many of our upcoming events.

Also, an update on the search for our new President and CEO. I understand they are in the interview phase and have some great candidates They hope to make an offer by the end of the month.

Meet Brian Martindale, who among many other things, is a living kidney donor. He is raising $17,000 to cover all travel fees and expenses to allow him to travel the contiguous 48 states.

His goal is to advocate for many people in each state who are in need of kidney transplants, by arranging for online press, along with television and radio interviews for those needing help the most. He is calling this journey "A Summer Of Life And Hope.”

Below you can read Brian's story, and the importance of taking this journey on behalf of others. And you will see how your business can benefit in supporting this journey of hope!

The online application will be available May 10, 2022 at 12:00 PM and will close May 31, 2022 at 5:00 PM. Applications will be available at www.bayfuture.com/main/grants/

Businesses may apply for grants of up to $20,000.

At SVSU Career Services, they focus on four areas of Career Readiness for their students: finding their passion and purpose, building their story, using professional platforms, and establishing their network. This looks like resume and cover letter assistance, mock interviews, job search strategies, career exploration, employment fairs, and connecting with employers like you.
Now that the academic year is ending, they are beginning a comprehensive audit of their office that includes surveying faculty, students, and employers. This feedback will help them as they redesign Career Services and create a new culture of Career Readiness on campus. SVSU Career Services is excited to return in the fall with new goals and initiatives to better meet your recruitment needs.
As an employer in the Great Lakes Bay Region, they value your insights and recommendations. Would you please take this five-minute survey? Your response will be extremely valuable to their planning. Thank you!
