A MESSAGE FROM KAREN DARCH
Exciting August Events, Community Highlights and Back-to-School Safety
|
Can you believe it’s already August? As we approach the end of our summer events season, there are still plenty of exciting activities to enjoy this month.
Mark your calendars to attend the final Thursday Night Out on Aug. 15! But don’t worry—Thursday events continue through Oct. 10 at the Barrington Farmers Market. Be sure to visit weekly for al fresco dining, live music and more!
Music lovers, you’re invited to the final Metra Lot Concert this year featuring Smooth Sailing on Friday, Aug. 16. This show is perfect for a generation of soft rock lovers. Hop on board as we ride the smooth waters of ‘70s and ‘80s Yacht Rock.
August is back-to-school month, and it’s important to prioritize the safety of our students as they return to their classrooms. Please remember to slow down in school zones, obey crossing guards, stop for school buses with flashing lights and remind children to follow all safety rules.
I also wanted to mention that yesterday’s National Night Out was a great success, uniting the community for a fun evening with free food, activities and a chance to meet our public safety personnel. Thank you to our sponsors, staff, volunteers, partners and community organizations for making this event possible.
Lastly, I am honored to recognize Dr. Rollin Potter, newly retired from his position as Barrington's Cultural Director, for his unwavering dedication and service to Barrington's White House and Cultural Commission. Since 2015, under his visionary leadership, Barrington's White House has blossomed into a vibrant cultural hub, welcoming thousands to a diverse array of events. Rollin's efforts in forging partnerships with art associations, universities, and expert organizations have enriched our cultural offerings and established Barrington's White House as a premier cultural destination in the northwest suburbs. We are deeply grateful for his contributions and lasting legacy in our community. Thank you, Rollin!
I look forward to seeing you at our events and wish everyone a safe and successful start to the school year!
Karen Darch
Village President

Metra Lot Concert: Smooth Sailing Aug. 16
|
National award-winning cover band Maggie Speaks is proud to present Smooth Sailing, an evening of Yacht Rock music.

The band Smooth Sailing recreates this era like no other, transporting you back to a period so mellow and smooth. You will hear all of your favorite classics from artists like Toto, Hall & Oates, Kenny Loggins, the Doobie Brothers, Christopher Cross and more. Full of guilty pleasures, this show is perfect for a generation of soft rock lovers.
The concert will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16 in the Barrington Metra Station's North Commuter Lot, 201 S. Spring St. Tickets are $35 and include six people per car. Bring your own chairs, small tables, food and drinks. For tickets and more information, click here.

200 and 300 Hough Steet Pedestrian Detour Route
Work at 200 and 300 Hough Street will continue with the demolition of the old Volvo dealership in the coming days. For safety and to complete a full removal of the building’s foundation, demolition work will require the closure of the adjacent sidewalk. A pedestrian detour route will be signed during this closure, which is anticipated to last approximately three weeks. The contractor will restore the sidewalk area before reestablishing pedestrian access.

Dedicated Website for Route 14 Underpass Project
Thank you to everyone who subscribed to receive Route 14 Underpass email updates. The Village sent out its first update earlier this month. If you haven't subscribed yet, please consider signing up for email updates on the dedicated U.S. Route 14 Grade Separation (underpass) project website at www.us14underpass.com.
In the coming months, recent tree removals will pave the way for private utility relocations by ComEd, Nicor, and Verizon, setting the stage for construction later this year.
Fully funded and supported by multiple agencies, this initiative promises transformative changes to the area. Additional project renderings are available on the website for a glimpse into the future of Route 14.

Seeking Open House Sponsors
The Barrington Fire Department Open House is an exciting event where you can meet your local firefighters, enjoy educational demonstrations, and discover more about the services we provide and how they can help you. The Open House event provides fire safety education, training and information to the public. The department's mission is to promote fire safety and emergency preparedness among all ages, as well as to provide family-friendly activities.
Currently, the department is seeking sponsors that can help the Village provide a fantastic time for the community! Planned activities include face painting, balloons, interactive family activities and caricatures at the event. Sponsors may financially contribute to these activities, set up a table, distribute business materials, or conduct an activity related to fire safety or safety in general. Participating sponsors are encouraged to distribute fun giveaways as well.

Water Saving Tip
As a Water Ambassador with the American Water Works Association, we would like to share information with the community regarding the importance of water.
One easy tip everyone can follow is to only run your washing machine and dishwasher when they are full. This can save up to 1,000 gallons of water a month – better for the environment and your checkbook.
