News and Information

The first parent-teacher conferences will take place on Wednesday, October 18, from 4:00 p.m. - to 7:00 p.m. in our PE center. Please be prepared with a copy of your student's schedule or a list of teachers you would like to visit. No appointments are necessary. You may visit one or all of your student's teachers. Please try to limit your conference to 5-6 minutes to allow time for all parents and students.

Badger High School wants to emphasize the significance of disciplinary literacy in our educational approach at Badger High School and its crucial role in shaping our students' academic success and future prospects.

Disciplinary literacy goes beyond the traditional definition of reading and writing; it encompasses the ability to comprehend, analyze, and communicate effectively within specific academic disciplines. In essence, it is about equipping our students with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in various subjects and prepare for a world that demands specialized expertise.

Principal's Note

The first month of the new school year has gone extremely well.  The weekly Badger Homerooms are places of engagement with academic career planning and relationship building.  This is also a place for the Digital Production class to air the weekly announcements.

Homecoming is October 9-13 with nightly activities for our students from movie night to the parade.  Families, we are looking forward to seeing you along the parade route on October 13th and at the Football game later that evening.  Please encourage your students to participate in the Badger activities of the week.

As part of our safety plan, we require all students and staff who use our parking lots to have a Badger parking pass.  They are $10.00 and can be purchased in the Main Office.  Please ensure that your student has the pass if they are parking at Badger or the LGMS lot.

Two academic  highlights for this month come from our Family and Consumer Education and Science departments.  Jamie Lutz has been asked to assist the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation in writing and designing the next ProStart curriculum.  ProStart is the competitive component of our Culinary program.   Our Science department is collaborating with the University of Wisconsin Madison as we implement phenomenon based learning experiences for our Chemistry students.

October is a month of much student activity.   With teens on the roadways heading home from school activities at various times, please take a moment to discuss safe driving with your teen.  Consider this - 4.6 seconds is the time texting takes your eyes off the road.  At 55 MPH this is like driving the length of a football field blindfolded.  A good tip before starting your car is to set the automatic response on your phone to let people know you are driving and will get back to them once you stop.  For more information on distracted driving check out this link on distracted driving - but not while you are driving.

I look forward to seeing you at the upcoming events at Badger.  Thank you for supporting your student and the Badger Community.

PSAT

Badger High School will be administering the PSAT test to 80 sophomore and junior students who had registered for it last Spring. Test date is October 11th, from 7:45 – 11:00 at Badger. The PSAT is a great way to prepare for college as it measures reading, writing, language, and math skills in a format similar to the ACT and SAT tests. This test also provides the opportunity for students to compete for recognition and scholarships through the National Merit Scholarship Program. If you have any questions, please contact the Counseling Center.

WEF College Fair

The Wisconsin Education Fair (WEF) will take place on October 3rd at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wl. We will be leaving Badger at 8:00 a.m. and returning around 11:00 a.m. There will be 100+ colleges to gain information about during this time. Sign up deadline was Sept 29th.

College Representatives

Watch for information on when college representatives will be at Badger to meet with students. Many schools will be scheduling visits with us throughout the fall. The library also has virtual reality tours for many out-of-state schools.

Transcripts

Students needing to send transcripts anywhere need to use Parchment, Transcripts 2023 2024 The account is free to set up, and two copies can be sent for free. The cost is $7.00 for each additional copy. If a paper copy is needed for any reason, please contact Mrs. Ingersoll in the counseling office.

ACT scores

Colleges that request ACT scores can be sent through www.act.org. If an account is not already set up, students will need to create an account to send scores. Many colleges will not accept paper copies or emailed copies. They will need to be sent directly from ACT.

Worker's Permits

The Department of Workforce Development's Equal Rights Division has developed a new online work permit application tool. Schools no longer provide work permits.

The application is now live. A parent can access the site using these instructions. Payment is made directly to the department through the application, using a credit or debit card or by ACH direct withdrawal. Once the permit application process is complete, the Department mails a paper copy of the permit directly to the employer.

In addition, we have reorganized our employment of minors web pages. The information you need is linked at the bottom of this page, including a guide to hazardous and prohibited work, the hours and times of day restrictions for minors, and links to the appropriate statutes and codes.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us by email at workpermits@dwd.wisconsin.gov

Badger Library

Badger Library is the home of Badger Brew Coffee Shop. Badger Brew is a non-profit, limited menu coffee shop managed by our Employability Skills class to prepare students of all ability levels for future employment. Badger students can apply to work in the coffee shop while earning an elective credit towards their diploma. Our coffee shop is proud to partner with Lake Geneva's very own Inspired Coffee Shop by serving their coffee and training future employees. Badger Brew Coffee Shop is open to students and staff during the school day.
