Most of us remember back to school with excitement - new shoes, new school supplies and new teachers made us look forward to the weeks before the start of a new academic year. Very few of us reading this newsletter were homeless when school started. The anxiety experienced by parents and kids over school is just one of the ways homelessness adversely affects people. Did you know that kids experiencing homelessness are 9 times more likely to repeat a grade than their housed peers?
At Family Promise of Cobb County are working hard to minimize the number of academic years our families face with anxiety. As we do our part, will you help out as well? When you shop and get your own kids or grandkids ready for school, will you take a minute and see if there are any items that you can pick up for the kids currently in our program? One of our students is even headed off to college to play soccer ;) Click on our list of 'Needed School Supplies' to see where you can help out. Any help no matter how small or large is greatly appreciated to make sure all our kids have a great start to their school year.
