Message from the President

Larry Slater, PhD, RN-BC, CNE, FAAN

Greetings from The Foundation of the NSNA (FNSNA) and welcome to a new academic year! The fall semester is one of the most exciting times for me. I enjoy witnessing new nursing students who are excited to start their nursing education journey, if not also a little nervous, as well as continuing students who are pushing forward towards their graduation. All are ready to become the outstanding registered nurses we know they will be. It is my honor every day to watch you grow and excel on your path toward a career in nursing - a career that I know will be just as fulfilling for you as it has been for me. This is just one of the many reasons I am proud to serve on the Board of Trustees for the FNSNA.

The FNSNA scholarship provided financial relief by covering most of the semester's tuition. The financial relief allowed me to concentrate on studying and spending more time with my daughter and less time at work. Our bond was becoming strained due to the limited amount of time I was able to share with her. Taking an extra day or two off work every two weeks helped to rebuild our relationship.

The scholarship provided security and stability, and I was able to dedicate the extra time to my studies and skill development. This extra time ensured I am better prepared and more confident in my ability to provide high-quality care for patients. Without a doubt, I feel that this relief highly attributed to my success as a student and later in my career.

I received my license on July 24, 2024, and am currently applying to new grad residency programs in Orange County, California. I aspire to obtain a position at the # 1 trauma center in OC, UCI Medical Center.
