A Note on Minnesota's School Meals Legislation

Dear Heilicher Families,

We hope you’re enjoying the last days of summer break! As we gear up for the upcoming school year, we want to share some important news about our school lunch program and the recent state legislation aimed at providing free breakfast and lunch to all students.

Minnesota’s new law introduces the possibility of reimbursement for school lunches under certain conditions. We want to assure you that we are actively pursuing this avenue for Heilicher, and we are fully committed to exploring every available option to align with the state’s initiative. In the meantime, please note that our current lunch program will continue as outlined in the back-to-school information packet.

Class Rosters

Click your child's grade level to see their class roster and teacher information.

Art Supplies

All students in grades 3-5 should keep the following art supplies at home for homework — be sure to check for dried out items and replenish if needed:

  • Pencils
  • Erasers
  • Markers
  • Scissors
  • Glue Stick
  • Colored Pencils (suggested brands: Crayola, Prang, or Rose Art)
  • Oil Pastels (a small box is sufficient. suggested brands: Cray-Pas or Rose Art)
  • Watercolor Paint Set with Brush (suggested brands: Crayola, Prang, or Rose Art)

In addition to the at-home materials, please send K-4 students to school with a labeled paint shirt. A good paint shirt is a large T-shirt that can be put on over their clothes. Students should have their paint shirts the first week of school.

Athletic Shoes for Daily Use

For the safety of our students and their ability to participate in all school activities throughout the day — including recess and PE — please make sure students in grades K-5 wear athletic shoes to school daily. Middle school students need athletic shoes with them if they do not wear them all day. For more on appropriate dress, refer to the Heilicher Handbook.

Health History

Please email Nurse Katie if your child(ren) has any changes to their health history.

Reminder: To help protect our community, please keep students home when they are sick — COVID or otherwise. For policies regarding health, refer to the Heilicher Handbook.

After-School Program Openings and Deadlines

The first after-school activities and athletics will begin September 5. HaBonim, after-school care, is available beginning the first week of school.

See our activity and athletic offerings on the Heilicher website and register by Thursday, August 31, on Jumbula. After Tuesday, you may have to email After-School Activities Coordinator Jeremy Savran to register.

Please note that the deadline for dropping an extracurricular and receiving a full refund is Tuesday, August 29. A $50 refund will be offered through Monday, September 4. After that date, no refunds will be issued.

Reminder: Students taking guitar class must bring their own guitar.

Some extracurriculars have waitlists; others, such as theater, have open spots. Heilicher also now has enough coaches to offer 3-5 Girls on the Run this fall!

GOTR encourages girls to better understand themselves. With emphasis on teamwork and healthy relationships, the program demonstrates how girls can have a positive impact on the world. Physical activity is woven in to inspire an appreciation for fitness and healthy habits, and the girls learn life skills such as treating others with care, practicing gratitude, and managing emotions. The session concludes with a celebratory, noncompetitive 5K event. Learn more and register for Girls on the Run on Jumbula, and reach out to Jeremy Savran with any questions.

Middle school soccer needs at least one more student who does not identify as male in order for the team to participate in league play this fall. All are welcome to join this co-ed team. Former athletic director and PE teacher Hector Sztainer is returning to coach soccer, and he is excited to work with former students! Please reach out to Athletic Director Lee Metzger with any questions.
