HEAD OF SCHOOL MUSING

What I love about private or independent schools like ours is our ‘independence’ from government bureaucratic red tape that can stifle a school’s entrepreneurial spirit. With change we can be thoughtful but also creative and nimble making decisions that are in the best interests of our students – right now. New course offerings for this upcoming school year are one such example. Here they are, in brief.

  • English – DE American Literature. Mrs. Cooper will continue to offer this as a hybrid course (asynchronous and in-person) and Mrs. Veratti will teach the same course on campus. Dual credit is offered through Colorado Christian University.

  • English – Creative Writing. With a strong teaching background in creative writing, Mrs. Juskaitis will offer this as a second semester opportunity for 10 th -12 th grade students.

  • Fine Arts/Business Studies – Art of Business. Mrs. Cofelice is excited to integrate art and business as her students work in the VCHS in-house creative communications agency. Students will create marketing content and fabricate their work. The new latex printer arrives this week.

  • Social Studies – DE Psychology. We assembled a full cohort of 11 th and 12 th grade VCHS students who will take this online course directly with Colorado Christian University.

  • Theology – Old Testament and Judeo-Christian Ethics. This course will be co-taught by Mr. Bergquist (virtually) and Ms. Nock (in-person). This 12th grade course will provide an overview of the Old Testament and its history and take a deep dive into what the Old Testament text has to say about important topics relevant today. Dual credit is offered through Colorado Christian University.

I’m grateful for a faculty who think ‘outside the box’ and who are regularly brainstorming how
to best engage our students, especially with their interests, passions, and futures.
