Kick-Off Part 2 - Back in the Sanctuary!

Worship Service led by Valerie Jackson

Scripture - Mark 7:24-37

After our summer in the chapel we return to the sanctuary this Sunday for our Fall Kick-Off Part 2! Come worship with us in our updated sanctuary as we begin the program year together. We will share in communion and children's Sunday school will start.

The service will stream live to facebook, YouTube, and our website homepage. Download the bulletin HERE.

Unfortunately, Pastor Mia has Covid and will be unable to worship with us this weekend. She is on the road to recovery and Valerie Jackson is stepping in as our worship leader for Marty Mallett's memorial service and this Sunday's worship service.

Sunday Mornings for Children

Elementary-aged children are invited to Sunday school with our Minister of Faith Formation, Joyce Haynes McCowan. The children will begin in Sunday school at 10 AM and will return to the sanctuary at the end of the worship service.

Children are also always welcome in worship, either in the pews or at the Prayground at the front of the sanctuary. When volunteers are available the nursery is open for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.

Intergenerational Activity

Saturday September 14, 12:00 PM

Our Minister of Faith Development, Joyce Haynes McCowan, is hosting monthly intergenerational activities. The fall theme is “Inside Out” (named from the movie).

On Saturday September 14 from 12-2 PM all ages are invited to join Joyce and Dr. Alika McGuire, Chiropractor, downstairs in the Fellowship Hall. Dr. McGuire will speak on the importance and application of emotional intelligence and its effects on children’s development. We’ll discuss how parents can recognize and respond to their children’s feelings in a way that allows them to effectively and happily deal with emotions and releasing stress. We’ll have light snacks, so please let Joyce know if you plan to attend.

And save the dates for the other fall intergenerational activities -

October 12: Self-discipline and self-esteem with Martial Arts Intro exercises

November 2: Gratitude and poetry, with the movie “Inside Out 2”

December 7: Karaoke, music, and games

We’ll resume in the spring - March, April, and May - venturing into activities of the heart (mission): What can I do to help my neighbor?

Please join the Fifth Sunday Sacred Studies group facilitated by Valerie Jackson and guests. We will meet in person on the fifth Sundays in September, December, March, and June from 11 am to Noon . There will also be a Zoom meeting once a month. All are welcome!! All sessions are independent so if you can’t attend them all, choose when you can join us.

The Faith in Our Future Campaign Ending Soon

The Faith in Our Future capital campaign is wrapping up in the next few weeks, concluding on Sunday October 13th. However, there’s still time to make a pledge and participate! As a reminder, the funds raised in the Faith in Our Future campaign will be aimed at helping revitalize our church and spur growth efforts. Please consider making a pledge if you have not already. You can make your pledge here: link to pledge form

Several Faith in Our Future projects are already underway and include sanctuary improvements including accessibility updates, enhanced lighting, and general sprucing up; modernization of first floor bathrooms; and a branding and marketing initiative. Next up will be creating a modern multi-purpose room in what is now the chapel and gathering room (aka parlor). Council will be prioritizing other revitalization efforts based on the final amount of dollars raised and will communicate next steps to the congregation

This is an exciting and important time in the life of our church, so if you are able, we invite you to participate. If you have any questions or would like a meeting with the campaign co-chairs, Jon Tiede and Randy Wang, please reach out via email or phone.
