Leasing Rules
Residents wanting to lease out their units should make sure to look at the Residential Charter to ensure they comply with the rules and avoid violations. Chapter 7.1 (b) (iii) states that a two-month minimum rental is required, whereas Babcock National allows a minimum 30-day rental.

Do Not Turn Your Irrigation System Off
You don't need to shut off the irrigation system when heavy rain occurs. The function of the rain sensor is to mediate and adjust the irrigation to the amount of precipitation. For example, If the rain sensor is set to 1/8" of rain and we get 2'" of rain, the system won't come on; it will adjust how long the system will run. Keeping your irrigation system on is crucial because just a few days in this extreme heat could be detrimental to less-than-year-old plants.

Wildlife Photo of the Week: Lubber Grasshopper
|
|
Ready For My Close-up: An Eastern Lubber Grasshopper observed here at Babcock Ranch. Photo by Nina Bennett.
|
|
Species: Eastern Lubber Grasshopper (Romalea guttata)
Photographer: Nina Bennett
Location: Boardwalk on the way to the dog park
Christina's Take: Insights from Babcock Ranch Environmental Mitigation Manager Christina Kontos:
-
A flightless and very colorful grasshopper native to Florida.
- Although this species is equipped with forewings and hind wings, they are incapable of providing lift for flight; however, these wings add to their color palate by revealing a beautiful pink or rose color.
- Young eastern lubbers, or nymphs, are mostly black with a narrow yellow stripe along their back and some red coloration on its head and legs.
- This species prefers to inhabit low, wet areas in densely wooded habitats; however, they can be found in nearly all habitats across Florida.
- Their diet allows them to eat small amounts of a variety of at least 100 different host plants so that they never starve. These plants include various shrubs, herbs, broadleaf weeds, grasses, vegetables, field crops, fruit trees, and ornamental plants.
- Did you know that when alarmed, they will spread their wings, hiss, and secrete a foul-smelling foam of toxic chemicals as an anti-predatory defense mechanism?! Therefore, their only natural predator is the loggerhead shrike, which impales its carcasses on thorns or barbed-wire fences so the toxins can degrade and become edible after about 2 days.
- "Lubber" is derived from an old English word, "lobre," which means lazy or clumsy due to their slow movement and clumsy crawling.
