Community Safety Initiative:
Education on Mobility Devices and Best Practices for Use
Best Practices While Using Mobility Devices According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission:

  • See and Be Seen. Most injuries or deaths involve motor vehicles. Many micromobility products are small, quick, and quiet, making it difficult for others to spot you, especially in parking lots and structures.
  • Expect vehicle drivers and pedestrians not to see you; slow down and stay aware of your surroundings.
  • Use the bell/horn to alert others.
  • Do not make abrupt, unpredictable movements.
  • Have lights added on the front and back of the device if not already included. Make sure they are on while using at all times, especially at night.

  • Beware of obstacles. E-scooters, micro, and mini devices have small tires, so objects and uneven surfaces can cause them to stop suddenly, throwing you off.
  • Always keep both hands on the handlebars and keep items off the handlebars.
  • Slow down and lean back when you have to ride over bumps.
  • Never ride under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • Only one person per device; additional riders can increase the risk and severity of collisions.

  • Always wear a bicycle helmet when riding to protect your head in a fall.
  • Before riding, make sure to check for any damage, which includes examining the handlebars, brakes, throttle, bell, lights, tires, cables, and frame.
  • Follow all manufacturer directions, review the safety information, and identify any weight and age limits for the device.

The Latest Progress Update on the
William and Mary Ann Smith Sports Complex
Expected to Open This Year

Construction continues to advance on the eagerly anticipated 23-acre William and Mary Ann Smith Sports Complex, located behind the Babcock Schools campus. The sports complex is on track to open later this year. In March, we provided you with an initial progress report on the sports complex via the Babcock Ranch Residential Association Bulletin. We now have even more detailed and exciting news to share on its current progress!

The various sections of the sports complex are in the following stages of completion:
  • Softball Field – Synthetic turf has been installed. Dugouts have been poured and fenced. Batting cages and field netting are installed. Secondary structures (signage, bases, pitcher’s mound, fencing, etc.) are projected to be completed in May. Scoreboard installation is ongoing.
  • Baseball Field - Synthetic turf has been installed. Dugouts have been poured and fenced. Batting Cages and field netting are installed. Secondary structures (signage, bases, pitcher’s mound, fencing, etc.) are projected to be completed in May. Scoreboard installation is ongoing.
  • Natural Turf Soccer/Multipurpose Field – The natural turf field has been installed and requires a 60-day grow-in period before use. Scoreboard installation is ongoing.
  • Stadium Field – Synthetic turf has been installed. The asphalt track has been installed and awaits the 28-day cure time before the synthetic surface can be installed. Installation of the bleachers and press box is ongoing. Lighting is anticipated to arrive in May, with installation and programming to follow.
  • Gateway Building – Located near the baseball and softball fields. Construction is ongoing and anticipated to be completed in June.
  • Skate Park – The concrete structure is complete; sidewalks, landscaping, and lights are ongoing throughout May.
  • Complex-Wide – Electrical and low voltage infrastructure and concrete sidewalk installation are ongoing. Landscaping is set to begin in May.

For your safety, accessing the sports complex is strictly PROHIBITED, as it is an active construction site. No exceptions will be permitted under any circumstances. Active construction sites within Babcock Ranch, including the sports complex, are extremely dangerous, and a lot of heavy machinery is operated.

As always, your safety is our top priority. We would like to thank you in advance for your kind cooperation during the construction of the sports complex. We will continue to send progress updates and notify you of grand opening day.

HOA's Role in the ARC Application Process

The Master HOA is designated as the entity to speak on behalf of the FRC and ISD regarding architectural design change applications. Through effective communication, the staff at the HOA educates residents on the Design Guidelines and process for approval. The FRC and ISD have a set of requirements to adhere to depending on the type of change, which may result in additional documentation to be requested and communicated by the HOA. The HOA assists residents from the initial intake of the application until the completion of the project, such as:

  • Where to find the Design Guidelines
  • How to submit an application
  • The initial intake of submitted applications
  • Documents required for the type of change
  • Required approvals before final review
  • Sub-HOA letter of approval
  • ISD stamp of approval
  • Deposit requests for larger projects
  • Communication with Vendors
  • Inspections of completed projects

The ISD, FRC, and the HOA work together to maintain the community’s architectural standards by ensuring compliance with the Design Guidelines. The hours of the staff dedicated to this process ensure residents take pride in their community’s look, feel, and aesthetics.
Wildlife Photo of the Week: Great Blue Heron
Species: Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias)

Location: Babcock Ranch

Photographers: Becky Hairsine

Christina's Take: Insights from Babcock Ranch Environmental Mitigation Manager Christina Kontos:

  • The majestic great blue heron is the largest heron that is found across North America!
  • Poised along the edges of wetlands, this bird stands at about 4 feet tall with a wingspan of about 6 feet and weighs only 5-6 pounds due to their hollow bones for flight.
  • This heron species is mostly bluish-gray with a white head, dark blue crown with stylish plumes, and specialized chest feathers that continue to grow and fray, like powdery down feathers.
  • Did you know that these “powdery down feathers” on their chest act like a washcloth to remove the slime of fish and other oils from their feathers as they preen?
  • Find these regal beauties standing still or walking very slowly along various wetlands as they forage for fish, insects, amphibians, crustaceans, small mammals, reptiles, and other birds. With their long, sharp, orange-yellow bill used as a spear to capture their prey, these herons can swallow fish and other sources of energy that are much wider than their long, narrow neck! Even small alligators have been known to be consumed by the great blue heron.
  • Found within the coastal areas of southern Florida resides the all-white subspecies known as the Great White Heron. Where the dark & white forms overlap in Florida, these individuals that have the body of a Great Blue Heron with a white head and neck are known as the “Würdemann’s Heron!”

How to Address Landscaping Issues at Your Home

Approaching landscaping ground personnel directly will NOT resolve outstanding issues, as they follow directions from project managers. For prompt resolution, please use the following methods:
  • Reach out to your Management team for your particular community
  1. Those of you in a service area run by the Master Association, please feel free to email hoa@babcockranch.com or call the office directly at 941-676-7191.
  2. For sub-associations (Babcock National, Crescent Grove, The Preserves, Edgewater Shores, Northridge, etc.): Contact the respective entities as they have their own landscaping contracts for those areas.

  1. Use the ORANGE "work order" button on the website.
  2. Submissions are reviewed daily by the Master Association Landscape Manager.
  3. Urgent issues are prioritized, and the Landscape Manager forwards them to the respective teams for sub-associations.
  4. Keep in mind that a sub-association may ALSO have its own work order system that you could use.
How to Resolve Landscape Issues Quickly

Submitting a work order is the fastest way to address landscaping concerns. Our Landscape Manager, James Carey, reviews tickets daily to ensure they are completed. If there is an emergency, he will reach out to you.
As a homeowner, you have the option to accept the HOA landscape subcontractor or select a landscape subcontractor of your choice. If you choose to use a different subcontractor, we kindly ask that they adhere to Babcock Ranch's landscaping standards to maintain our community's cohesive look and feel.

Here are some key points we want to ensure homeowners are aware of:
  1. Architectural Review for Landscape Changes: Any changes to your landscaping, except for replacing the same plant, must be submitted for an Architectural Review. This process ensures that your landscaping meets the HOA's standards. You can find the Architectural Review here.
  2. Approved Pesticides: It's important that all landscape subcontractors are aware of the approved pesticides for use in Babcock Ranch. For example, Round-up is not an acceptable herbicide to use.
  3. Acceptable Landscape Flora: You can find a list of acceptable landscape flora for Babcock Ranch here.
  4. Notification of Outside Subcontractors: If you choose to use an outside subcontractor, please inform the HOA. This helps prevent issues such as over-fertilization, incorrect irrigation timing adjustments, and miscommunication that can occur with multiple subcontractors. To notify the HOA, fill out a Work Order with the exact details of the operation your subcontractor will be performing.

If you have any questions or concerns, please fill out a Work Order, and our Landscape Manager will address them. All Work Orders are reviewed daily to ensure timely responses.

Thank you for your cooperation in maintaining the beauty and harmony of our community's landscaping.

Registering for Events

Registering for events is essential because it helps the Lifestyle Team prepare for events and ensures there is enough food, favors, and activities for everyone who attends. It also helps them gauge interest in events so they can plan accordingly. While it's not mandatory for free events or events with plenty of space, it's still a good idea to register if you plan on attending. However, registration is required for paid events and events with limited space. So, make sure to register in advance to secure your spot and ensure a seamless event experience!

Lake Timber Lodge

Ready to unleash your inner artist with a glass of wine in hand? We invite you to sip, swirl, and socialize your way to a stunning masterpiece, instructed by a renowned local artist! We provide everything from a canvas to brushes and paint; just bring your imagination.
Cesar Aguilera, known for his mixed media paintings and accomplishments in drawing, painting, sculpture, film, make-up & effects, and fashion design, has become a pillar of the art community in SWFL.

With his rich history in our local area, Cesar has forged a new era in community service by providing the communities we love with overwhelming inspiration and contribution. Working on murals to brighten our streets and schools with history and remembrance, Cesar has contributed to a multitude of projects, including work at many local organizations, schools, and police departments, memorializing fallen Officer Julian Keen in the streets of La Belle. With his co-founded business, Artsemble Underground, he has worked on murals at many local businesses, organizations, and private spaces from Cape Coral to Miami.

His mixed media pieces not only embrace traditional media such as oils and acrylics but unconventional materials such as coffee, bleach, discarded technology, and found objects of every ilk and design.

Aguilera’s body of work evinces a passion for changing the injustices wrought by humans on each other, the animal kingdom, and the environment. Cesar’s art is inspired by the preservation of life. He focuses on beauty in even the smallest of things. He wishes to amplify the celebration of human achievement with the voice of his artwork while engaging a passion for the preservation of our natural wonders.
