The United Against Hate (UAH) Community Outreach Program aims to improve hate crime reporting by teaching community members how to identify, report, and help prevent hate crimes; and building trust between law enforcement and communities.
UAH shares resources to combat hate and encourages discussion between representatives from law enforcement, community organizations, and members of the public. UAH emphasizes that while some hate-fueled incidents—standing alone—may not be a crime, people should still report those incidents to local law enforcement and the FBI.
During the UAH program, participants may work through hypotheticals about hate crimes and bias incidents. Through video clips featuring real stories, participants can learn about the impact of hate crimes and bias incidents on communities. Facilitators lead rich discussions that help participants reflect on concrete actions they can take to identify, report, and, most importantly, help prevent acts of hate.

Resident Notice on Verges
Babcock Ranch understands and acknowledges that pine straw mulch planted along verges throughout our community has contributed to clogged storm drains and pooling water in our roadways during periods of heavy rain. We are currently testing Golden Creeper (Ernodea littoralis), also known as Beach Creeper, as an alternative to pine straw mulch and will let you know about our findings.
We are grateful to Community Patrol and many residents who assist in clearing storm drains during heavy rains. As a reminder, you’re responsible for maintaining your verge. Maintenance includes proper watering, fertilizing, composting, pruning, mowing, mulching, and pest management. Verge landscape design guidelines, maintenance tips, and resources can be found here.
Stay tuned.
Sincerely,
Babcock Ranch Residential Association

Babcock Jams Workshop is March 2nd, not March 6, as stated in the video.
|
|
You may remember my Nashville friends Meg Williams and Travis Bowlin; many of you saw their fantastic opening set at Nashville Night back in November. Meg invited me to play guitar with them this past Saturday night as a guest, and we had an absolute blast.
I joined Meg and Travis onstage for their last song at Nashville Night, and that was off the cuff...but that was just one song and a repetitive one at that. This was three hours of material, some of which I had heard but never played and some that was completely new to me. But the show was completely seamless, the band sounded great, and no one in the audience would have had a clue that we had not rehearsed and I was learning some of the material onstage.
This kind of thing happens every day when good musicians get together. The audience doesn't see these "soft" skills; they only hear the music. But all the players know that they are engaged in a conversation, and all it takes to keep your place is to pay attention and be a good listener.
This is good advice in life as well as in music, and those musical "soft skills" are exactly the kind of things you will learn at the next Babcock Jams workshop on Saturday, March 2nd!
If you are interested in being one of the featured performers, please contact me ASAP at babcockjams@gmail.com. This means you or your group will be coached on your song in ways that will get you thinking about these more subtle but crucial aspects of playing music together. I do have room for another group or two, and if you're not in a group but would like to play, then we can do something together. As with every aspect of Babcock Jams, it all depends on your participation!
Babcock Jams Events:
- 3/1: Food Truck Friday - Dave Isaacs with the Poelker Brother Band, 6 p.m., Friday, March 1, Founder's Square
- 3/2: Babcock Jams Workshop, 5 p.m., Saturday, March 2, Lake Timber Lodge.
- 3/4: Beginner Guitar Class, 6 p.m., Monday, March 4, Lake Timber Lodge

Wildlife Photo of the Week:
Streaked Sphinx Moth
|
|
Species: Streaked Sphinx Moth (Protambulyx strigilis)
Photographer: Mary Frisbee
Location: Jack Peeples Park
Christina's Take: Insights from Babcock Ranch Environmental Mitigation Manager Christina Kontos:
- The streaked sphinx moth is native to tropical Florida, with streamlined wings and dark edging on its thorax. Their wingspan is 108-134 mm, and the inner margin of the forewing is indented.
- This moth is found in two different color forms: pale and dark. The upper side of their larger forewings are light yellowish gray in its pale form and reddish brown in its dark form. The underside of their forewings is more brightly colored with splashes of orange and yellow, along with dark bands and a pale outer margin. The hindwing in the pale form is a deep golden orange with dark bands, while the dark form is an orangish-brown color with dark bands.
- When resting on a tree, this moth is often inconspicuous as it camouflages with its drab upper coloration and conceals its brightly colored hindwings with its larger forewings.
- During the flight, this moth shows off its hidden beauty as their hindwings expose flashes of deep golden colors.
- Moths, such as the streaked sphinx, are very important pollinators for native wild plants!

HOW TO ADDRESS LANDSCAPING ISSUES AT YOUR HOME
Approaching landscaping ground personnel directly will NOT resolve outstanding issues, as they follow directions from project managers. For prompt resolution, please use the following methods:
- Reach out to your Management team for your particular community
- Those of you in a service area run by the Master Association, please feel free to email hoa@babcockranch.com or call the office directly at 941-676-7191.
- For sub-associations (Babcock National, Crescent Grove, The Preserves, Edgewater Shores, Northridge, etc.): Contact the respective entities as they have their own landscaping contracts for those areas.
- Use the ORANGE "work order" button on the website.
- Submissions are reviewed daily by the Master Association Landscape Manager.
- Urgent issues are prioritized, and the Landscape Manager forwards them to the respective teams for sub-associations.
- Keep in mind that a sub-association may ALSO have its own work order system that you could use.

Benefits of Aeration and Top Dressing Your Turf
|
|
Aeration
- Improves root growth: Aeration reduces compaction, which helps roots grow deeper and thicker.
- Increases health: Aeration allows water, oxygen, and nutrients to move easily down to the root zone
- Reduces thatch: Aeration removes plugs of roots and thatch from the soil
- Makes lawns more efficient: Aeration makes lawns more efficient at absorbing water and nutrients.
Top Dressing with Organic Soil
- In our Florida sandy soils that may contain clay and rocks, compost top dressing would increase water and nutrient retention, make nutrients available, increase microbial activity, improve aeration, improve soil quality, level lawn, and break down thatch.
|
|
How to Resolve Landscape Issues Quickly
Submitting a work order is the fastest way to address landscaping concerns. Our Landscape Manager, James Carey, reviews tickets daily to ensure they are completed. If there is an emergency, he will reach out to you.

Registering for Events
Registering for events is essential because it helps the Lifestyle Team prepare for events and ensures there is enough food, favors, and activities for everyone who attends. It also helps them gauge interest in events so they can plan accordingly. While it's not mandatory for free events or events with plenty of space, it's still a good idea to register if you plan on attending. However, for paid events and events with limited space, registration is required. So, make sure to register in advance to secure your spot and ensure a seamless event experience!
