Mind-blowing 2015 Pinot Noir and 2016 Chardonnay
The release earlier this year of Gary and Nick Farr's exceptional 2015 'Sangreal' and 'Farrside' Pinot Noirs was a revelation, with the wines selling out seemingly instantly. The strength of the 2015 vintage coupled with the Farr's incredible winemaking resulting in extraordinary wines, and they were eagerly snapped up by collectors and consumers alike.
Yesterday saw the release of the flagship wines - two Pinot Noirs from 2015 and the second vintage of their flagship Chardonnay from 2016.
'Tout Près' is well-known and already afforded status as one of Australia's greatest Pinots. However a second wine from the densely-planted Cote Vineyard has been released, named 'RP' after Gary's wife (and Nick's mother) Robyn Pamela. It is a Pinot Noir of uncommon texture and silkiness, with the power and density you'd expect of the Farr's yet an elegance and refinement I've not seen in any Farr Pinot Noir previous.
The Cote Vineyard is also the source for the flagship 'GC' Chardonnay (named for Gary Charles Farr), and this is a more-than-worthy follow-up to the inaugural release earlier this year. It retains similar intensity, depth and complexity.
As with most great wines, quantities are strictly limited, as the national allocation of these wines has already sold out. Please do not delay in placing your orders for these beauties. These are exceptional wines - do not miss out on them.

A complex mix of clones and soil types in this densely-planted plot always produces the Farr's most powerful and concentrated Pinot Noir. And notwithstanding this wine's illustrious lineage, I suspect this is the best yet produced. Stunning flavours of black cherry, minerals, undergrowth, fine yet powerful tannins and incredible length. Give this a few years.
