BUSC Newsletter

March 21, 2024

Dear BUSC Families and Supporters,

It's hard to believe we are already halfway through March. Spring soccer is well underway, and it is great to see our players around town in their training tops and jerseys coming and going around Pleasanton. As a reminder we will have a new uniform cycle starting in the fall. We have sponsorship opportunities to promote your business or service on the comp and rec jerseys. Please contact me (tevinjones@busc.org) asap if interested.

The Ballistic United Soccer Club (BUSC) Board of Directors recently approved a 3-year Strategic Plan. See a message from our President and Executive Director below!

One of the goals for the Ballistic United Soccer Club has always been to create the best possible learning environment for the players to be able grow, both as a player and as a person.

In order to provide the best path for the players to develop is to put the best staff in place to guide the players as they move through the program.

"The club has always prioritized and has been successful building a very experienced technical staff,” said Kevin Crow, the Executive Director of Ballistic. “I would rank our current staff as one of the top youth soccer club staffs in the country.”

We feel we have succeeded in that area and wanted to share some of the accomplishments of our talented staff!

Monthly Staff Highlight - Dane Shaffar

"Soccer has always been my life and I thoroughly enjoy sharing my passion and love for the game with the youth in the community. I want to teach our youth in the community not only soccer education but share with them the life lessons I have learned through my soccer career. I grew up playing for Ballistic and it has been a great experience to see it all come full circle. Learning from coaches here and now being given the opportunity to coach and teach here. "

Stanford Children's Health - Hydration

Hydration

Even in the colder and wetter weather, it is vital to keep up with hydration. Dehydration can elevate core temperature, leading to cramps, heat exhaustion, and decreased performance. Look out for symptoms like dizziness, weakness, and headaches. Don't rely solely on thirst; always keep fluids readily available. Utilize these science-backed hydration strategies to help achieve and maintain peak performance:

  • Consume 16-20 ounces of water or a sports drink 2-3 hours before exercise.
  • Maintain steady intake during sports – a golden rule of 8 ounces every 15-20 minutes. 
  • Check hydration through urine color – clear or pale yellow indicates sufficiency.

VALLEY VIEW BUSC

When Valley View elementary school in Pleasanton partnered with the Ballistic United Soccer Club and the Get on the Bus program that helps bring the game of soccer to under-privileged kids, there were simple things they had hoped to accomplish.

It wasn’t just the experience of the playing the wonderful game of soccer, but it also encompassed academic help, nutritional help, and learning life lessons.

It was a success right off the bat. But along the way something else happened – the team got good.

Following a great performance in the regular season, as well as strong effort at the Davis tournament last fall, the team was selected to participate in the Cal North winter league to represent Ballistic in the under-12 division,

The players practiced up to three times a week and played on Saturday’s, which meant the players had to endure the elements – including the heavy rain and winds.

The season consisted of a total of 10 games, that were all played at neighboring cities, such as Walnut Creek, San Ramon, West Contra Costa, Mount Diablo, and Danville, with no home games in Pleasanton.

Valley View won eight of the games, scoring 37 goals, with the defense record three shutouts. The results are not final, but it appears the group will finish atop the standings.

Great work by the players, staff, and parents on the amazing season!

PLEASANTON RUN FOR EDUCTATION

We are a proud sponsor of the 12th annual Run for Education on Sunday, April 28, 2024 at the Alameda County Fairgrounds.

Bring out your friends and family for a fun fitness-minded community event to support Pleasanton schools and see us at our booth at the Expo!

There is a 2 Mile (untimed), 5K, 10K, and a 1/4 mile Kids' Challenge for ages 10 and under. Meet up with soccer teammates and create a running team!

It'll be a fun time with school mascots, kids' activities, and there will be fun food sponsors as well.

Volunteer spots are available as well if you'd like to get involved in another way. PPIE can specifically use more course marshals along the race routes.

Sign up at ppierun.com, we look forward to seeing you there!
