Hemlock Hospice: Landscape Ecology, Art, and Design
|
|
|
Tuesday, February 6 6:30-8:15pm
at Harvard GSD, room 124
48 Quincy Street, Cambridge
Register here.
The BSLA Emerging Professionals and ASLA GSD Student Chapter invite all to join a talk by David Buckley Borden and Aaron M. Ellison, co-creators of the
Hemlock Hospice project.
On view through mid-November 2018, this immersive site-specific science-communication project tells the story of the ongoing demise of the eastern hemlock tree at the hands (and mouth) of a tiny aphid-like insect, the hemlock wooly adelgid. While telling the story of the loss of eastern hemlock, the project addresses larger issues of climate change, human impact, and the future of New England forests.

Creative Placemaking Across the Commonwealth
in 2018
|
|
|
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY
The BSLA is pleased to partner with
Patronicity,
MassDevelopment, and the Boston Architectural College to catalyze placemaking projects in lower income communities across the Commonwealth.
(More here.)
A whopping 48 municipalities, nonprofits, or community groups applied to receive free technical assistance to help engage stakeholders in the revitalization of underutilized public spaces! Approved teams will be eligible to apply to
MassDevelopment's Commonwealth Places program, which offers matching grants of up to $50,000 for construction.
Can you help communicate a vision?
We are seeking designer volunteers -- firms and individuals -- to help with a limited scope of visioning work so that these groups can begin crowdfunding.
It's a quick endeavor, leading to real impact. The program expects these projects to be built by the end of the year.
From public art to pocket parks, community gardens to green alleys, greenways to parklets, a wide array of public space projects in cities and towns from Cape Cod to the Connecticut River Valley to the North Shore are eligible for design assistance. A great spectrum of scales as well -- offering opportunities for small and big offices; emerging practices too.
If interested, or to learn more, please email
Gretchen at the Chapter Office.
Thank you!
