REGISTER YOUR CHILD

Online registration for students returning for the 2024-2025 school year is now open

The link to the PowerSchool Parent Portal can be found on the District 2 website at www.bsd2.org/register, along with resources to assist you and answer any questions you may have.

Students’ Chromebooks can access the online registration portal wherever you find wireless Internet (Wi-Fi). PLEASE PLAN TO ATTEND

Parent information session to address cyberbullying and unwise social media use

All BSD2 parents are encouraged to attend a special parent information session on cyberbullying and unwise social media use at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, at Blackhawk Middle School. (Simultaneous Spanish translation will be provided.)

The evening will feature a special presentation by Sameer Hinduja, PhD, who is recognized internationally for his groundbreaking work on cyberbullying and safe social media use. In this presentation, he will offer practical strategies for identifying, preventing, and responding to cyberbullying, sexting, and unwise social media use.

Dr. Hinduja’s strategies focus on improving communication, cultivating empathy and resilience, developing a moral compass, identifying non-negotiable values and beliefs, finding stable sources of identity, growing in self-control, prioritizing maturity and responsibility, and solving problems in ways that satisfy all parties.

Attendees will leave encouraged, empowered and equipped with an increased ability to promote safe and responsible participation in cyberspace among the youth they care for, and with numerous resources to assist them toward those ends.

RUN! HIDE! FIGHT!

Learn how District 2 is strengthening school safety and its emergency response protocols

Student safety is the District’s top priority!

That’s why we’re encouraging all BSD2 parents to attend a special parent information session on the important school safety initiatives implemented by District 2 over the past two years.

This important presentation will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, at Blackhawk Middle School. (Simultaneous Spanish translation will be provided.)

During the evening’s presentation, parents will learn about:

  • The completion of a District-wide safety audit.
  • The implementation of standard response protocols for emergency situations throughout BSD2 schools.
  • The training of staff and students in ALICE principles that provide them the option to “run, hide or fight” when reacting to a threat.

CLASS OF 2024

Save the date for Blackhawk's eighth grade promotion ceremony

Blackhawk Middle School will hold its eighth-grade promotion ceremony on Tuesday, May 28, in the field house at Fenton High School, 1000 W. Green Street, Bensenville.

FREE DEVELOPMENTAL SCREENING

Nobody knows your child better than you!

Bensenville School District 2 will conduct free developmental screenings for children ages 3-5 on Thursday, May 2, and Friday, May 3.

These screenings are the first step in identifying children for our Preschool for All program and/or Head Start.

Professionals will assess the development of your child’s gross and fine motor skills, pre-academic readiness, and speech, language, vision, and hearing.

Call the Tioga School office at 630-766-2602 ext. 4200 to schedule an appointment for your child’s screening.

GROUNDBREAKING

Beginning a new chapter in the history of Blackhawk Middle School

District 2 Board of Education members and administrators gathered March 21 with representatives from the Village of Bensenville, STR Partners (the District's architects), and D-R Rosemont (the District's construction managers) for a brief groundbreaking ceremony for the Blackhawk Middle School renovation project.

The project will transform much of Blackhawk’s look, feel, and function and will be completed in time to welcome BMS students and staff when the 2024-2025 school year begins in August.

ROCK YOUR SOCKS

Celebrating World Down Syndrome Day

In District 2, we rocked our socks to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day. Every year on March 21, people all around the world come together to raise awareness of Down Syndrome by wearing brightly colored, mismatched socks. The "Rock Your Socks" campaign was created because chromosomes are shaped “like socks” and people with Down syndrome have an extra chromosome.

REPTILE ROAD SHOW

An up-close, hands-on introduction!

Pre-kindergarten students recently met an alligator, a Burmese python, an African spurred tortoise, an African bull frog, and a bearded dragon!

In fact, the animals all visited them at school!

Thank you to JG's Reptile Road Show for dropping by the Bensenville Early Learning Center and teaching the students about these cold-blooded creatures!

WHEEL OF WISDOM

Beloved traveling game show quizzes BMS students on behavior expectation and more!

Last week, BMS students and staff were treated to the fun and informative traveling game show Wheel of Wisdom.

During three different grade-level shows, students were presented with numerous trivia topics that included STAR behavior expectations.

Entering the final two months of school, Blackhawk used the Wheel of Wisdom as a fun way to revisit its behavior expectations, as well as other fun facts related to history, sports, TV and movies.

Thank you to the Blackhawk PTO, who sponsored and organized this fun and informative event!

5ESSENTIALS

Thank you for your input!

Congrats to our winners!

The 2024 5Essentials survey window closed over spring break.

Thank you to all of our parents who took the opportunity to share their thoughts on crucial elements of success for your child's school!

  • Effective Leaders
  • Collaborative Teachers
  • Ambitious Instruction
  • Involved Families
  • Supportive Environment

By collecting data on these topics, the survey helps District 2 improve teaching and learning by improving the culture and climate in its schools and classrooms.

Parents' survey responses drive future decisions about their children's schools and support the school improvement process.

GOING SWIMMING!

Thank you, as well, to the Bensenville Park District for its continued support of our 5Essentials survey efforts.

At each of our schools, families that completed the survey were entered into a raffle to win four season passes to the Bensenville Water Park & Splash Pad - a $240 value - courtesy of Bensenville Park District.

Congratulations to this year's winners!

  • Blackhawk Middle School: Ivan Bustamante, Grade 8

  • W.A. Johnson School: Brian Carmona, Grade 5

BSD2 E-FLYERS

Here are the current community flyers posted on the District's website

District 2 has gone "green" in its approach to distributing community flyers.

Rather than sending flyers home with each student via backpack mail, District and community flyers are posted on the BSD2 E-Flyers page for parents to view or print 24/7.

It is estimated that this saves our schools hundreds of hours per year spent sorting and handling the materials, not to mention the number of trees and other resources saved in producing them.
