Sunday Worship & Communion

June 2, 2024

WORSHIP SERVICE 11:00am

Scriptures: Psalm 133 &  1 Corinthians 12:27-31

Sermon: The Church as the Body of Christ

Rev. Mark Howland

Sunday Studies have concluded for Spring and will return in the Fall.

Can't attend Worship in person?

Join us online LIVE!

We will still send an email this FRIDAY with the LiveStream YouTube link

& Sunday Worship Guide.

Previous Worship Services at Balmoral are also still available on the

Balmoral YouTube channel

What is the purpose of the church as you understand it?

During the majority of the month of June, I will be doing a sermon series on "What is the Church?" Each Sunday morning during worship we will look at different insights into the role of the Church in the lives of those who attend. While this will in no way be an exhaustive list of definitions for the Church, I hope that we will be able to generate some helpful discussions.

This Sunday we will explore "The Church as the Body of Christ." Together we will look at how this has become a title given to the Church over the centuries. We will look at one of the passages in Scripture which may lend thoughts to this concept. We will also look at what it means for us, and for the world, if we live out being the Body of Christ.

I encourage each of you to give some thought to the first question I presented in this article. Then take some time considering what the title of "Body of Christ" might mean and how it impacts your understanding of the Church.

Blessings,

Pastor Mark

WE'LL CONTINUE SENDING WEEKLY NEWSLETTERS

 THIS SUMMER!

With some changes, though...

This summer, the newsletter will continue to be sent to you weekly, but on THURSDAYS instead of Wednesday, beginning next week, June 6. And it will INCLUDE the upcoming Sunday's Bulletin and Worship link in the Newsletter.

(There will not be a separate Worship email on Friday. The Prayer List will continue to be sent on Tuesdays as usual.)

There will also be some changes to the format:

  • NEW information will always be at the top, beginning with Sunday Worship information, including the bulletin and Worship link.
  • Pastor Mark's article will follow the worship information
  • NEW articles and announcements will come next
  • Weekly features that change slightly each week will then appear: Birthdays, the Calendar, and Photos will be here.
  • The CONTACTS list will follow the Photos
  • REPEATED ARTICLES - ones that appeared earlier BUT may still be in the future (such as the picnic or Book Club)
  • ONGOING RECURRING articles that you may need to refer to such as how to sign up for a Liturgist or items needed for the Food Cart or Johnson Auxiliary.
  • You may have already noticed that Recurring Announcements for Outreach articles such as the Food Cart and Sign-ups for Liturgist have already been condensed in the main portion of the newsletter with a LINK BUTTON to get the full information, if needed.
  • Articles that are down at the bottom beyond the photos will also be accessible directly as a LINK from the menu list at the top of the newsletter for quick access!

HOME COMMUNION

Parish Associate Rev Elizabeth Dick will be creating a team of volunteers to provide home communion on the weeks when we celebrate Holy Communion in worship.

If you are interested in being a part of that team or wish to learn more about this ministry, please contact Elizabeth or Pastor Mark.

SOUP KITCHEN VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

It’s Balmoral’s turn at the Soup Kitchen at First Presbyterian, Sunday, June 9th, after worship! We’ll carpool from the BPC parking lot after worship and eat at 1st Pres.

Contact Scott Dawson to join us!

JOIN the PARADE!

This Saturday, June 1, 2024

11:00am

Memphis Pride Festival and Parade

The Session has chosen to have an entry in the MidSouth Pride Festival Parade on Saturday, June 1. We need individuals who are willing to walk in the parade, which is approximately a 5-6 block walk and then the same in return. There may also be one vehicle in our entry which would allow those who are not able to walk to still participate. Please sign up either by contacting the church office or by placing your name on the sign up sheet which is on the little round table in the narthex.

The annual Memphis Pride Parade draws a massive audience and offers a production like no other. The Parade Steps off at 4th and Beale and makes its way through the historic Beale Street Entertainment District. The procession features over 110 units with 2,500+ participants of all ages and backgrounds including church groups, performing arts groups, museums, high school & college groups, senior groups, non-profit organizations, city & county leaders, local businesses, and corporate brands.

DON'T FALL for TEXT & EMAIL SCAMS

Balmoral members have recently had several text and email messages to our members that are supposedly from Pastor Mark or from another BPC members that are SCAMS. We have sent out a warning email each time we have learned of one, and we are not alone! Churches and businesses all over the country are being targeted.

WHY is THIS HAPPENING?

HOW CAN YOU TELL IF an EMAIL or TEXT is a SCAM?

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO AVOID GETTING SCAMMED?

Answers to these questions and more are answered by clicking the button below!
