IT IS COMING.... Yes, Easter is coming. In a few short days we will celebrate once again the most significant event in the life of every follower of Jesus Christ - EASTER. The day when we remember that the tomb is empty. Jesus has been raised from the dead and because of that, we also will be raised from the dead.

BUT NOT YET.

Before we reach Easter morning, we need to remember and experience Good Friday and Holy Saturday. We so easily want to jump right into the great joy of Easter and ignore and/or avoid Good Friday and Holy Saturday. However, without Good Friday there can be no Easter morning. Jesus's death through crucifixion is what makes the resurrection so impactful. If Jesus had not died, the victory of the power of death would not have occurred. The events of Good Friday are difficult to face. Hearing the account of Jesus's betrayal, whipping, carrying a heavy cross, falling over and over to the ground, being nailed with spikes to that cross through his wrists and ankles, the thud of the cross dropping into the hole in the ground, the hours of suffering, and eventual death are not facts we wish to experience. Especially since we know that today we still play a part of what necessitated his torture and dying.

If we successfully make it past the details of Good Friday, we still have to encounter Holy Saturday. Remembering Jesus's lifeless body lying in a dank and dark tomb does not create images of glory and great joy in our minds. We may struggle with our own mortality but considering the mortalit37y of our Lord seems incongruent with our perceptions of the Lord. This year we are honoring Holy Saturday with a prayer vigil at the church, even as Jesus's words to the disciples echo in our heads, "Could you not keep watch for one hour? Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak." (Mark 14:37c-38, NIV).

This year, I encourage you to participate in the Good Friday service and the Holy Saturday Prayer Vigil. Do not rush to Easter without experiencing these two important days. If you pause at Good Friday and Holy Saturday, Easter morning will be so much sweeter; the celebration so much more joyful!

Blessings,

Pastor Mark

The Library by Susan Orlean

The Library Book drew widespread praise when it was published in 2019. Described as “exquisitely written, consistently entertaining” by The New York Times, "a sheer delight" by USA Today and "a book lover's dream" by the Minnesota Star Tribune, this nonfiction book chronicles the mysterious and devastating fire that destroyed the books and cultural treasures of the Los Angeles Public Library. It also showcases the larger, crucial role that libraries play in our lives from their beginning to modern day. (Not surprisingly, the Memphis Public Library has several copies available.)

Construction Update at NaCoMe
Our meeting spaces have more power than He-Man. Now that the meeting centers both have electricity, all that is left is finishing the AC/heating system and installing bathroom fixtures and countertops. Our landscaping crew has started reshaping around the meeting centers. Everything is on track for completion of construction by May 1st.
Along with the construction, we are keeping up with our share of the work. From the donations of a few families from Idlewild Presbyterian church and the help of volunteers from First Presbyterian Church of Clarksville, we have started construction of a new firepit between the two meeting centers. This common space area will overlook the creek as groups enjoy the new meeting areas.

As we look to finish out construction, we are still looking for partners to help us finish out our Capital Campaign. Will you help us go from 94% all the way to 100% in our funding? We are only $184,000 short of our goal and hope to be fully funded by the completion of our wonderful new buildings.
