The word "wisdom" is one that invokes different understandings. Often, we equate wisdom with knowledge. This is a mistake on our part. Wisdom goes beyond knowledge; a list of facts, data, and/or dates. Wisdom has an application component. How we apply our knowledge and experience, what attitude we approach aspects of life with, decisions based on matters other than facts, these all correlate to wisdom.
The Bible contains a number of "wisdom" passages. There are times in Scripture that the word "wisdom" is given human actions and attributes. The writers wanted us to also associate "wisdom" with an aspect of who God is. Adding this layer to our English word, wisdom, creates a need to go beyond a surface understanding when we incorporate it into our faith and our journey with Christ.
I encourage you to dig deeper into Scripture to see what you might discover in regard to wisdom. We will this Sunday explore how Solomon's request of the Lord for wisdom impacted how he was a leader.
Blessings,
Pastor Mark

Worship Team Update
Greetings from the Worship Team! We have been busy since the beginning of the year and settling in with Rev. Mark Howland at the helm. In our first meeting in January we made plans for an active and engaged Lenten Season. We had Ash Wednesday Service that was candlelit and featured a cross from our original sanctuary that remained in the pulpit area for Lent/Easter season. We also featured several new banners that were used throughout the Lenten Season. One of the new banners was lovingly made Lynn Ward and Glenda Ellis and was hung behind the choir area. Palm Sunday had the congregation processing together and waving palms. Maundy Thursday was a meaningful service with communion, washing of the hands, music and prayer. Good Friday was a Tenebrae service that was candlelit and included stripping of the sanctuary. On Holy Saturday we were able to gather in the sanctuary for prayer and a reflection that Rev. Mark guided us through. Easter Sunrise service was joyful and followed with a breakfast prepared by the Fellowship Team. During this time the sanctuary was decorated again with banners and flowers for the celebration of Christ’s Resurrection. Balmoral’s music program and musicians are outstanding and special thanks to Ben Legett, Leiza Collins, Linda Warren and Frank Carney as well as to the entire choir and guest musicians for their gifts.
The Sanctuary has undergone some changes. Some “old” banners have resurfaced and have been hung in the sanctuary space. There are flower baskets and a fountain outside the windows of the sanctuary and on Sunday mornings several birds enjoy lounging in the bird bath. Pentecost was fiery with banners and special décor and candles to add to our worship experience. We have a Creation Station for children that has become a part of the Worship space and has been very successful. The communion tables have been freshened up with some colorful displays. Cathy Bailey has made some beautiful flower arrangements for several Sundays. We have continued to have children collect quarters for our “quarter sticks” and Lynn Ward has engaged several children to help with “ringing” bells on Sunday mornings. Children have also passed out special prayers for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. Ben Legett and Leiza Collins and the choir have continued to have wonderful music for all of our services, and we have been blessed by several guest musicians for our worship services throughout the spring and into the summer.
The Worship Team is looking forward to an active fall with World Communion Sunday and Advent plans are already under way.

Owning up to our own responsibility for the growth in Christian nationalism | During a recent installment of "A Matter of Faith: A Presby Podcast," hosts Simon Doong and the Rev. Lee Catoe asked pastor and author the Rev. Dr. Brian Kaylor to talk about how mainline Protestants have helped build Christian nationalism. Listen to their hour-long conversation here. | | | |
