When is enough, enough? That is the question that haunts us at times. It is very easy for us to struggle with being satisfied. Often, we approach life with a vision of scarcity instead of abundance. When this happens, we can become paralyzed because we feel we will never have enough to achieve our definition of success in life.
This is not a new issue for humanity. When God had saved the people from the oppression which they were complaining about while in Egypt, they found themselves out in a land which was much different than the valley of the Nile. They began to complain because they could only see what they viewed as scarcity. So God provided them manna to take care of their physical needs and then even gave them quail to feed their bodies.
Jesus was in the midst of his ministry and had acquired a large number of followers who enjoyed hearing his teachings. One day the disciples realized that this crowd of people were probably going to start saying they were hungry and start asking for food. When the disciples looked around, they could only see the scarcity of food which was available. They encouraged Jesus to send the people away. Yet Jesus saw abundance and ended up feeding the people out of this abundance.
After this experience, Jesus talked to the disciples about what it means to be truly fed. He lifted up the importance of not only taking care of our physical needs, but also our spiritual needs. He explains to them that he is the one who can feed those spiritual needs.
How are you viewing your life, from the stance of scarcity or abundance? How are you allowing Jesus to feed you? Join me on Sunday to explore this idea of being fed.
Blessings,
Pastor Mark

THURSDAY MORNING SMALL GROUP
The Thursday Small Group meets the first and third Thursday of each month in Classroom A at 10:15. This year we have been concentrating on words and what those words say and mean in the context of the Bible, poetry, music and our own experiences. So far, the words explored have included If, Surprise, Doubt, Clouds and Smile/Smiles. Discussions are always energizing and often heart-warming.
This Spring, the group took a “field trip” to hear Joe Birch at the Calvary Lenten Preaching Series and enjoyed lunch there together afterwards. This summer we have taken a “sabbatical” from classes and instead have gone to movies and seen IF, Ezra and the Sound of Hope. Each has told a story that left us thankful and able to see our difficulties and faith through the eyes of others in new ways.
The group will begin meeting again in September and we would welcome anyone who would like to join us.
Glenda Ellis will be happy to speak with you about the group if you have any questions.

Thank you to my Balmoral family for all the love and support you gave our family on Don’s passing. We felt so ministered to with all the texts, emails, calls, visits, food, and presence at the service.
Don would have been amazed that so many attended and would have appreciated the care you showed for him and his family. Balmoral was a church where he felt comfortable when he did come.
And I was told by many there how perfect the service was. I can’t express how much you have all meant to me, and Alex and Emily felt right back at home.
Love to all,
Karen Pilkington
