Deadline for Free Fall Baltimore grant applications extended

Each year through the Free Fall Baltimore grant program, BOPA provides grants to Baltimore City-based organizations and local venues/event spaces with operating budgets under $300,000 to produce free cultural events in Baltimore City during October. Individual artists/creatives can apply if their event is also free and open to the public and located in a public space or Baltimore City-based venue. Grants will be given in the amount of $1,000 to all grantees. The new deadline is Thursday, July 18, 2024. For details and to apply, click below.

Applications are open for Gamescape activation at Artscape

Gamescape is a section of Artscape highlighting the local game creator community. It will feature games by local indie developers and students as well as game-themed art and music pieces. It will be held at The Fitzgerald during Artscape, August 2–4, 2024. Applications are now open for two Gamescape opportunities: Game Submissions and Art & Music Submissions. Experience Artscape behind the scenes as a volunteer

BOPA is seeking enthusiastic and hardworking volunteers to support Artscape 40. Volunteers can expect to support different front-facing and behind-the-scenes areas during Artscape, August 2–4, 2024, alongside diverse groups of staff and volunteer teams. Please note that all volunteer opportunities require various levels of skill, commitment, flexibility, and are subject to availability. Competitions & calls for art

Chesapeake Arts Center's (CAC) "Photos From Around The World" exhibition highlights photography made within the last five years in the Maryland, D.C. or VA area. Artists over the age of 18 are invited to submit. The deadline is July 15, 2024. Click the button below for full open call details and requirements.

Online art gallery Light Space & Time currently has five competitions with open calls for art. Deadlines range from July 27 to October 28, 2024. The Made to Read & Investigate Writing Prize is a unique flash fiction contest. Winning stories will be published by The Hopkins Review and serve as the basis for a new scientific study of people’s brain activity while reading stories. Be part of a show featuring stories from HBCU alumni

The Short Kuts Show debuts at the Enoch Pratt Library's Central Branch Main Hall on August 22, 2024, with the third volume of its "School Dazed" HBCU live stand-up storytelling experience. If you are an HBCU alum with a tale you want to tell on stage, you must attend one of the virtual info sessions. Baltimore residency provides a local studio & financial support

Blue Light Junction (BLJ) opens a fourth round of applications for The Ibura Art and Research Residency in Central Baltimore. The fall 2024 residency cycle is September 15–December 15. BLJ is seeking two people for the Fall 2024 residency. The Ibura Art & Research Residency provides a studio, financial support, and thought partners for researchers to explore their work and practice through the lens of people, plants, and place. The deadline to apply is July 14, 2024. Request for proposals deadlines 5pm this Monday

Baltimore creatives are invited to submit proposals to activate the vacant retail space at the Fitzgerald from September 1, 2024, to August 31, 2025. This is a project of Midtown Baltimore, in partnership with MCB Real Estate and Bloom Arts Strategy. They are looking for projects that utilize the space for rehearsals, performances, or related programming as well as engage the larger community in creative activities, commerce, and programming. Two-day home-buying workshop for local creatives

Make Space was founded and designed to help eradicate the vacant house crisis Baltimore City currently faces by creating live-work spaces for creative business owners and documenting the impact. Make Space believes that artists and creative entrepreneurs have the capacity to sustain communities if provided with the economic tools, multi-generational mentorship, and support from the current residents. Arts-integrated fellowship opportunity for school principals

The 2024-25 Principal Fellowship offered by Arts for Learning Maryland will support 14 outstanding principals in developing an action plan that utilizes the arts for school-wide improvement. Grant applications for Native artists deadlining July 22

The Artist in Business Leadership (ABL) Fellowship offered by First Peoples Fund is a yearlong program that helps independent Native artists pursue art as a way to build a business to support themselves and their families. The ABL Fellowship awards $10,000 in funding towards a proposed project that will help artists launch or grow a successful arts business. First Peoples Fund's Cultural Capital (CC) Fellowship is a yearlong program offering financial support and guidance to culture bearers & artists who are committed to passing on ancestral knowledge within their Native communities. The CC Fellowship awards $10,000 in funding to artists & culture bearers to support their cultural work in their community through the arts. Applications are now open for 4 literary arts grants

PEN America "champions the freedom to write, recognizes the power of the word to transform the world, and works to unite writers and their allies to celebrate creative expression and defend the liberties that make it possible." The organization currently has four open grant opportunities for literary artists, including one for children's and young adult novelists, one for translations, and one for literary oral history. Federal placemaking grants for nonprofits

Our Town is the National Endowment for the Arts’ creative placemaking grants program for nonprofits. Free arts integration conference for Baltimore City teachers

This year’s Summer Arts Integration Conference is August 7–8, 2024, at Baltimore Design School. This annual summer conference provides teachers in all content areas from Baltimore City and the surrounding regions with engaging opportunities to learn about arts integration and how it can positively impact student learning. Opportunity for Black women & non-binary playwrights

In its third year, Two Strikes Theatre Collective's (TSTC) Brown Sugar Bake-Off will focus on a new theme: mental health and what it means to reclaim wellness in the face of emotional labor and generational trauma.

TSTC is searching for Black women and non-binary playwrights to write short plays using selected "ingredients" and a specific "recipe." A panel of readers will select the plays for live production in October 2024. The Association of Arts Administration Educators (AAAE) seeks its 2024/25 Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Research Fellow(s) to investigate the intersection of EDI and arts management programs.
