NEWS & POLICY HIGHLIGHTS
  • Beverly Hills is considering increases in its water rates to raise revenue for future infrastructure investments. If passed, the city council will vote on the rates on February 20th, with an expected enactment date of July 1. The key change in the proposed rate change is moving from a fixed rate for wastewater to a volumetric-based rate for wastewater.

  • The LA County Board of Supervisors has voted to support an appeal to the Supreme Court in the Johnson v City of Grants Pass case. If overturned, the case could lead to the overturning of Martin v Boise, the precedent that limits the enforcement of anti-encampment ordinances.

  • The Culver City Police Department has released its end-of-year report for 2023. Some highlights include an increase in property crime by 21% over 2022 but a slight decrease in total violent crime by .09%.

ELECTION 2024
Ballot Highlights for the Westside

Without any citywide races and the key Westside LA City Council race decided last election cycle, the Westside ballot may seem quiet by comparison to past cycles. It’s only the quiet before the storm.

Despite a quiet municipal ballot, there will still be plenty of choices to be made for state legislative representation and the statewide ballot initiative, Proposition 1. Additionally, City of LA voters will be asked to decide on Measure HLA.

Measure HLA will require the city to adopt transportation safety improvements promised in the Mobility Plan 2035 when the city makes street improvements.

Voters in Beverly Hills will be asked to select new city council members. Neither incumbent Councilmember Julian Gold nor Councilmember Lili Bosse is seeking re-election. There are ten candidates vying for the two open seats.

Ballots are out, and the deadline to vote is March 5th!
