We can't sit still! BOKS, a free physical activity and nutrition program, is fueled by communities and empowers parents, teachers, schools, and local volunteers to give kids a body and brain boost that will set them up for a day of learning.

A Word From Our Founder
Hello BOKStars!

School's out for summer! While I celebrate the ending of another school year, I also start to reflect on the summers of my youth which involved unstructured, unscheduled times that were full of fun activities. Whether it was in a neighboring yard, the local park or nearby town lake, there was always something to keep me active and busy.  Now, as a working mom, I face the challenge, which I'm sure many of you do, of what to do with my kids over summer vacation.  So many factors play a role in putting that plan together whether it be finding the right (and affordable!) summer camp, asking a relative to help out or having a flexible summer work schedule.  Once all that is figured out, then it's on to finding new & fun things to actually do with my kids to keep us all moving.

As a result, my team has created a BOKS Summer Fun Pack to help families keep active while school is out. This Fun Pack includes some of our favorite BOKS games, along with crafts, experiments, printables and other little tidbits.  This Fun Pack can be used almost anywhere - at home, neighborhood gatherings or even as part of a summer camp.  Now kids can enjoy BOKS even when school is out!

The BOKS Summer Fun Pack is free and will be available on our trainer hub as well as via download if you  click here .

We hope you stay in touch via our BOKS Trainer Facebook page over the summer. Let us know what you are doing to stay active with your kids.  We will share a few fun games and ideas there as well.  We are an active and vibrant community - let's keep it going!

Happy Summer!
Kathleen

BOKS Game of the Month
Water and the Plastic Cup

As you know, we use the plastic cup for a fun indoor game that ends with the kids building towers of the collected cups.

Here is a game to use those same
cups in the summer with a little water to
keep you cool and refreshed.

Materials:  Plastic cups & bucket of water

Details: 1) Line up kids (groups of 3+) one behind the other all with their own cups
2) The kid in front has to fill up their cup with water and pass it over their head and allow the water to flow into the kid's cup behind them
3)  Then the second kid has to do the same to the kid behind them, etc.
4) Measure how much water the last kid in each group has in their cup and who ever has the most wins.

His BOKS program hosts the school's color run and he has ended BOKS sessions with fun, active field trips (hiking, anyone?).  His ideas and passion are amazing.

Marine Corps Marathon Update
Meet #TeamBOKS Runner
Renee Tabor

Renee is a BOKS trainer in Pembroke, MA. She is a marathon runner, who began running long distance, in memory of her dad, also a marathon runner, who passed away suddenly of a stroke. Running acted as the best therapy for Renee as it slowly healed her heartbreak. She has run three Boston Marathons as a charity runner for Tedy's Team/American Stroke Association. It was through Tedy's Team, that Renee learned about BOKS and as a mom of two young elementary aged children  she wanted to get involved. Not only is she a BOKS trainer, but she advocates for BOKS when she teaches indoor cycling.

"I am proud to lace up my sneakers to run the Marine Corps Marathon as a member of  #TeamBOKS. Movement is powerful and can heal. Every child deserves opportunity to benefit physically and mentally from this exceptional movement program. BOKS Rocks!"
