Dear Beachwood Middle School Families,

Happy New Year, and welcome back! I hope this message finds you well-rested and rejuvenated after a joyful winter break. As we return to school, it is heartwarming to see our students back with enthusiasm and energy as the new semester approaches. As a reminder, the second quarter/first semester ends on January 19. Let’s make the most of the upcoming weeks, embracing the opportunities for growth, collaboration, and success that lie ahead. Our teachers continue to work hard in creating a positive and rigorous learning environment.

Please mark your calendars for an important event: On January 16, Beachwood High School will host an informational session about the College Credit Plus (CCP) program for students in grades 6 - 12. College Credit Plus is a state-funded opportunity in which students can earn high school and college credits simultaneously. Please note that the time has changed since the session was originally advertised last month. Additional information about the College Credit Plus Information Night is provided below.

Wishing everyone a wonderful week ahead.

Sincerely,

Tony Srithai

Beachwood High School Hosts College Credit Plus Information Night

Beachwood High School will host a College Credit Plus (CCP) Information Night on Tuesday, January 16, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Beachwood High School Community Room. Representatives from Tri-C, Kent Geauga/Twinsburg, and Cleveland State University will be present to answer families' questions about the requirements for participation in CCP courses at each of their campuses.

Beachwood High School offers a wide range of course options throughout your child's four-year plan of study at the high school. One program we offer for consideration is Ohio's "College Credit Plus." This program can help students earn college and high school credits simultaneously by taking college courses offered by community colleges or universities. The purpose of this program is to promote rigorous academic pursuits and provide a wide variety of options to college-ready students.

Participating in College Credit Plus is free for students and their families. School districts are required by the state to pay the tuition and textbook fees for participants who attend public colleges or universities. If you choose to attend a private college or university, you may face limited costs. Beachwood has agreements with many colleges in the area, several of whom will be in attendance to answer questions you may have about their programs. Your child's school counselor will help you assess if this program is suitable for his/her needs.

Please note: A Letter of Intent signed by the student and parent must be submitted by April 1, 2024 in order to be eligible to participate in this program for the 2024-2025 school year (including summer).

We look forward to meeting with you on January 16 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. For more information about the College Credit Plus program, you can find it on the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce website.

News & Highlights

Classroom Spotlight: Michele Toomey

Students in sixth-grade English Language Arts have been studying characterization and how authors use character change to reveal the themes of their novels. After participating in book club groups, the students created projects to reveal the significant character traits and themes of the novels. Projects included designing comic strips, journaling from the perspective of the main character, composing acrostic poems, creating photo journals, and developing TV Talk Shows.
