Message from the Principal

Dear Beachwood Middle School Families,

I would like to extend a huge thank you to our MAC Scholars for their efforts and education in coordinating our Black History Month celebrations. Through their thoughtful planning, our students had the opportunity to delve into the rich history of the Black community. Last week’s events helped to foster an environment of appreciation and understanding throughout our school community.

As a reminder to our eighth-grade families, the high school will host a curriculum night on Tuesday evening in the Beachwood High School auditorium. This event offers valuable insight into the academic pathways available as our students transition to high school. We encourage all rising ninth-grade families to attend to learn more about the course-scheduling process.

Lastly, please review the important information about PTO fundraisers in this week’s newsletter. Your support helps ensure the success of these initiatives, which directly benefit our students and their educational experience. Our staff is excited about this partnership and upcoming “Pi Day” themed events on March 14!

I hope everyone has a wonderful week!

Sincerely,

Dr. Tony Srithai

Principal

Pi Day FUNdraiser

One, two, three, four…we declare a COIN WAR!

How does it work?

Middle Schoolers, start saving your pennies! Next week, from March 4 to 8, each grade will compete for bragging rights, and for a chance to a PTO-sponsored party! You’ll have an opportunity to fill your grade’s container before and after school, during advisory, and during lunch. Pennies and bills add points to your grade’s total. To keep things interesting, bring in your silver coins to sabotage your opponents, deducting from their total. The grade with the highest positive point total at the end of the week wins!

Classroom Spotlight: Evan Perkins

Students are mixing competition and curriculum in a competitive learning exercise! Students are learning the first ten amendments of the U.S. Constitution for Ms. Buddenhagen's social studies class. Students practice the amendments, known as the Bill of Rights, and recite key words to memorize them as quickly as possible. This is a fun way to prepare for a test through a friendly competition. Students receive their choice of a tasty reward when they can accurately recite all ten amendments in a timely manner.

Class homework assignments are posted daily, and students are encouraged to complete their work during the school day. Students may come to Room 203 for help when Coach Perkins or Ms. McCalla are in the room. Eighth grade is a transition period for many students. Not only are students learning study habits that will be necessary in high school, but they are figuring out valuable social skills, relationship issues and time management.
