From the Desk of the Principal

Dear Bishop Family -

It is difficult for me to articulate how humbled, grateful, and excited I am to be the new Principal of Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School. I know in my heart that God called me to serve in this role, and I am committed to the mission of Catholic education to inspire disciples of Christ for a life of service to God, family, and community. I realize this is an abrupt and dramatic change that has undoubtedly caused some anxiety. Please know that in the few weeks we have remaining in this school year our focus will be on the spiritual and academic development of our students as we work through this transition.

We held a student assembly on Thursday morning and I challenged our students to be hopeful, to open their hearts to God’s grace, and to answer His call to serve. My final thought for them was a quote from Dr. Bill Wiley of Franciscan University who said, in reference to Christ’s presence among us that, “He comes to us as a whisper, not through great acts – His power intentionally veiled. He comes to you as a whisper….Encountering God is not manufactured in programs, but arises in a docility to whatever the Spirit gently makes possible in hearts that are open to unexpected chances to serve souls.” I am so blessed to have the unexpected chance to serve the souls of the Bishop family and I invite you to be involved in the bright future ahead.

Regrettably, Bishop Gregory L. Parkes, is unable to celebrate Mass with us this coming week. Please join us for our All School Mass on Monday, April 15, 2024 at 10:40 AM in the EDPAC. Following mass, I will be available in the lobby.

You can expect an invitation to an upcoming “meet and greet” evening event in the coming days.

In His Peace,

Dr. Benjamin H. Moore, Ed.D.

Principal

Mensaje y oración en español

Dear Bishop McLaughlin students, families and friends,

I hope everyone had a chance to enjoy the Easter season Break and is ready to take on the remaining weeks of the school year with the renewed grace and strength from our Risen Lord. This is a busy yet very important part of the year. Please stay on top of assignments and the dates for important testing and academic deadlines. The Exam schedules for Seniors and for all underclassmen are included in this newsletter. Please read through the notes included with the schedules which answer many common questions.

Parents, now is the time to check your student’s grades and address any issues with missing assignments or low grades. Your student will be able to put forth their best effort on their exams only if they are actively involved and current with their classwork and homework assignments. Studying for an exam is only productive when your student understands the material to study. Use this coming week to help set your child up for academic success.

Seniors need to stay academically focused in the midst of all the exciting Senior activities. The Senior Final Academic Alert is on Friday, April 12th, so it is imperative to address any issues with teachers before that date. Seniors have been given information regarding their Senior Responsibilities and Activities. Please speak with your student if you are not yet aware of this important information.

May the peace and love of God be with us as we venture through these remaining weeks and make lasting BMCHS Hurricane memories.

Yours in Christ,

Mr. Schlereth

Assistant Principal
