Just In Time Information - Friday, March 20th
School Closure Update
|
|
Dear BK Parents and Students,
This will be our last daily communication until next week and it contains some very important information for both our parents and students. It is important in these daily communications to remind our community of the five goals that we set for the uncertain period we are entering and that are guiding our decisions and actions:
- Prioritize the health and well being of our faculty, staff, students, and greater community.
- Continue to provide a great education for all students via virtual learning
- Maintain the strong sense of community we have here at Bishop Kelly
- Find ways to acknowledge, appreciate, and celebrate members of our community
- Deliver predictable, daily communication to our entire community
Our Just in Time update today is built around communicating what we are doing for three of the goals we set.
GOAL #2: Continue to provide a great education for all students via virtual learning
We have made the decision that we will be doing virtual learning the week of March 30th - April 3rd and likely the following week. We we will make the decision about April 6th - 10th next week. Our teachers, counselors, student services and IT teams have worked incredibly hard and collaboratively to prepare us for this. Here are the things you need to know for the first week of virtual learning:
|
|
Virtual Learning Daily Schedule
|
|
Expectations for our Students
On a daily basis, students will log into Schoology before 9:00 am and check the Announcements page for schoolwide announcements and the daily schedule.
Upon reviewing the announcements, students will proceed with attendance at each class for the day. The first task each day will be for the student to go into the “attendance” discussion for accountability purposes.
Activities following that will be outlined by each teacher within each schoology course.
Virtual Instruction
Teachers will use a mix of live (synchronous) instruction/ interaction through Schoology Conferences as well as providing asynchronous content and material for students through the Schoology Learning Management System (LMS).
Other tools may be required for special tasks, but the primary technology tools for delivery will be Schoology.
How to contact counselors and student support services
Counselors and student support will all be available during our virtual learning time period. The preferred way of contacting your counselor is via email. Depending on the nature of the question, counselors will follow up with an email, phone call or 1:1 virtual conference.
Counselor/ Student Support Contact info
How to access BK IT Services
Bishop Kelly IT will be available 8:00AM to 3:30PM M-F during our virtual learning. Especially the first few days after returning from Spring Break we anticipate significantly higher need. Please help us navigate this new territory by making sure to check our knowledge base for an answer to your question prior to sending us an email.
Parents / Guardians, please use your Student’s BK Google account when sending a request via email. Without that account your ticket may not be recorded.
(Please see the offer from Sparklight below)
GOAL #4: Find ways to acknowledge, appreciate, and celebrate members of our community
Each week Bishop Kelly faculty and staff nominate students, and students nominate faculty and staff, who have demonstrated the BK Way attributes of Faith, Safe and Caring Place, Academic Excellence, Activities, Honor, Generosity, Community, and Partnership. We are continuing our Knights of the Week even though school is closed because so many wonderful things are happening even if we are not physically present to each other.
Congratulations to this week's Knights of the Week!

Taylor Slaven, Nadia Link, Olivia Austin, Kepa Guerricabeitia, Kate Ryan, Bella Turner, Kalia Munio, Addi Ribordy, Barrett Coyle, Jaiden Rodrigues, Emily Laude, Victoria Garcia, Lucy Quiroxz Pina, Olivia Benton, Klea Bozha, Livi Kazarinoff, Addy DeMasters, and Lauren Gauna
The yearbook was due to the publisher on Friday, March 20th. This is always a crazy week for us, but with not having school and no direct contact with students, this was an incredibly huge challenge, not to mention the postponement of spring sports. However, the yearbook staff stepped up and finished their pages, oftentimes working many hours trying contact kids through social media.
Taylor Slaven never missed a beat when I assigned her a COVID page on Tuesday night that she only had about 72 hours to turnaround. We felt it was important to document this historical time in the yearbook, and I knew without a doubt that I could count on Taylor to get it done, and she did! She spent numerous hours putting this page together, and contacting other yearbook staff members about finishing their own pages. She was a true leader in this crazy time.
So many kids reached out to others and offered to help, and it was a true team effort. I am genuinely thankful to have such a dedicated and dependable yearbook staff, and I want them to know how much their hard work is appreciated.

BK Faculty/Staff of the Week
Rich Raimondi and Mike Caldwell
For their leadership on keeping our students and staff as our number one priority. The rollout of virtual school and the constant communication to our community. They have spent countless hours to make sure all of their bases are covered and items are in order.
Father Greg Vance, S.J.
For offering the numerous masses this week and the opportunity for confession. His calming demeanor in this "storm" has been a blessing to this BK community.
Gratitude
There are many wonderful things happening in the midst of this crisis. In today’s faculty/staff meeting we virtually created as a team a gratitude wall. We thought you would like to see what our faculty and staff are grateful for.

GOAL #3: Maintain the strong sense of community we have here at Bishop Kelly
Without Sunday Masses at our parishes and daily Masses at Bishop Kelly, we are looking at streaming live (with archive also available) our Chaplain, Father Vance, S.J. celebrating Mass. Stay tuned for this beautiful way to continue building our community. And for those of you who missed reading yesterday’s Just in Time Communication, Fr. Greg Vance wrote a letter to our community on suggestions of what things we - both Catholics and other faith denominations - can do without Masses or worship services. We now enter an even more challenging time for our lives of faith in Jesus Christ. Here is the
link to the letter
once again.
Finally, BPA, our Employee Assistance Provider, sent us these
tips for dealing with the COVID-19 Pandemic
from Amy Walters, PhD, a clinical health psychologist and the director of Behavioral Health Services for St. Luke's Humphreys Diabetes Center. They are excellent and can help our students, faculty/staff and our families stay safe, mentally and physically healthy during these uncertain times.
We wish you a wonderful spring break. Enjoy the time with family and take good care of yourselves and be safe and healthy.
Please let us know if you have any additional questions by replying to this email with your questions. We will be a better school and a stronger community thanks to the efforts of so many through this crisis.
