A New
Home for Spellbound
But first: a period of transition
A building has just been purchased to be the long-term home for Spellbound Bookshop. After several location changes, mostly due to rising rent, we will finally be able to put down roots.
Bringing our story full circle, Spellbound will end up where it all began way back in 2004: on Haywood Road in West Asheville. The building is under contract now, and we'll share the address and some photos as soon as the purchase closes. It'll take several months of construction to get it ready for Spellbound to move in, so in the meantime...
Starting this week, downstairs from where you're used to shopping with us, you can shop with us at our new Spellbound Bookshop Pop-Up Shop Inside The Hop where you can browse and buy from a selection of books for all age groups, and where you can also buy gift cards and place/pick up special orders. To start, pop-up hours will be 11-7 Monday, Tuesday, Friday.
You can continue to shop with us online anytime and
pick up orders during our pop-up hours at The Hop, or
have them shipped to you (or a gift recipient) with free shipping for orders of $30 or more. Search for any title in print, for kids or adults, and buy from Spellbound online.
As a reminder, anything you buy from our website supports the store and the local economy exactly the same as if you plucked it off our shelves, so
please buy from our website r
ather than Amazon if you'd like to support the return of a full-size Spellbound!
Spellbound will still be bringing author events to schools and other venues around town while we wait out the construction. We'll keep everyone updated on construction progress here and on social media. This is a very exciting development for the bookshop, and we hope you'll stay in touch and keep shopping with us during the transition. See you at
The Hop!

Join the Stand Against Racism
Friday, April 27th 4-6 p.m. at The YWCA of Asheville
An interactive all-ages presentation by Charles Waters, poet and co-author of the new children's book Can I Touch Your Hair? Poems of Race, Mistakes, and Friendship.
A fifth grade boy and girl have to work together on a poetry project, and they're not sure what to write about . . . at first. Irene Latham, who is white, and Charles Waters, who is black, use this fictional setup to present paired poems about topics including shoes, sports, music, stereotypes, and much more. Accompanied by artwork from acclaimed illustrators Sean Qualls and Selina Alko, this relatable collection explores different experiences of race, and how we talk about it in twenty-first century America.
This event is part of the annual Stand Against Racism, sponsored by YWCA locations nationwide, which aims to build community among those who work for racial justice and to raise awareness about the negative impact of institutional and structural racism.
Free event with book signing to follow. All ages welcome. No purchase required, but you can reserve a copy now for $17.99. If you can't make it to the event but would like a signed copy, mention that in the comment section at checkout.

Henry can't wait until he can have a bee suit of his own so he can help his Aunt Lilla with the sister bees.
Day after day as Henry observes his Aunt Lilla work with the beehives on their Lowcountry farm, he becomes fascinated with her bee suit and her ability to communicate with the bees. When he learns that the bees are getting ready to look for a new place to live, he tries to find a way to communicate with the sister bees to convince them to stay.
Award-winning author Lester Laminack teams up with Jim LaMarche in this stunning picture book that will encourage young readers in their curiosity about what they see in nature. An author's note includes additional information about bees and bee conservation.

Like many children, Moon leads a busy life. School, homework, music lessons, sports, and the next day it begins again. She wonders if things could be different. Then, one night, she meets a wolf.
The wolf takes Moon deep into the dark, fantastical forest and there she learns to howl, how to hide, how to be still, and how to be wild. And in that, she learns what it's like to be free.
This simply worded and stunningly illustrated story reveals the joy to be found in play, nature, and, most of all, embracing the wild in us all.
