On November 18, 2021, members and guests assembled on Zoom for the final General Membership Meeting of 2021. We conducted the 2022 Board of Directors Election, recapped the year, and announced plans for 2022. We also heard from our special guests from simplicityHR by Altres. The NAHB has published a toolkit with resources to help builders comply with the requirement of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) emergency temporary standard (ETS) on COVID-19 vaccines and testing.

The ETS, published on Nov. 5, requires all employers with more than 100 employees to mandate vaccinations for their workers or weekly COVID-19 tests to attend work. After its publication in the Federal Register, some of the provisions in the ETS will be enforceable by OSHA inspectors beginning Dec. 6.

The BIA Government Relations Committee has been meeting since the beginning of November in preparation for the 2022 legislative session which convenes on January 19th.

A top priority in 2022 is a bill BIA introduced in 2021 which was deferred. Revisions to HB1131 are presently in the works. This bill relates to the STATE BUILDING CODE COUNCIL and requires the state building code council to make determinations on the financial impact, including the impact on amortized utility costs, of the adoption of a code or standard on single-family and multi-family homes and include the determinations in its annual reports to the governor.
