BIA-Hawaii 2021 President Mahalo

As 2021 draws to a close, BIA has been grateful to have Beau Nobmann leading us during these unprecedented times. Beau's leadership and inspiration were instrumental in guiding BIA through the past year. Beau, thank you for sharing your wisdom and for your unwavering support!

While this year has been filled with many new challenges, BIA has overcome them together. Here's to a successful 2022.
We're Back In-Person & We Can't Wait To See You!
January 21-23, 2022 at the Blaisdell
With the recent lifting of gathering restrictions, we're very excited to welcome back our BIG Home Building & Remodeling Show.

The health and wellbeing of our community are of the utmost importance to BIA Hawaii, and while we are excited for the opportunity to gather and share new products and services with attendees, we've made some changes to our show plan to enhance safety.

  • Our floorplan will allow for reasonable distancing, providing enhanced privacy and safety.
  • The flow of traffic will be managed, facilitating a safer movement of people.
  • Participants will show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test upon arrival each day.
  • Hand sanitizer will be readily available to all participants.
  • All participants will be masked.

We're encouraging all participants to utilize our Sneak Peek website - for exhibitors to promote their booths, products, and expertise early, and for attendees to begin planning their home show trip.

We’re excited to see you in person in January!

Resources You Can Use

The NAHB has published a toolkit with resources to help builders comply with the requirement of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) emergency temporary standard (ETS) on COVID-19 vaccines and testing.

The ETS, published on Nov. 5, requires all employers with more than 100 employees to mandate vaccinations for their workers or weekly COVID-19 tests to attend work. After its publication in the Federal Register, some of the provisions in the ETS will be enforceable by OSHA inspectors beginning Dec. 6.

Gearing up for the 2022 Legislative Session

The BIA Government Relations Committee has been meeting since the beginning of November in preparation for the 2022 legislative session which convenes on January 19th.

A top priority in 2022 is a bill BIA introduced in 2021 which was deferred. Revisions to HB1131 are presently in the works. This bill relates to the STATE BUILDING CODE COUNCIL and requires the state building code council to make determinations on the financial impact, including the impact on amortized utility costs, of the adoption of a code or standard on single-family and multi-family homes and include the determinations in its annual reports to the governor.

A full listing of BIA's 2021 GRC Committee activity can be found HERE.

If you'd like to learn more about this bill or have questions, please reach out to Jess at jess@biahawaii.org
