2022 Cary Snowden.jpg

From the Desk of the CEO

Dear Friends of Boys & Girls Clubs,

As we gear up for summer, we’re happy to see that things are almost back to normal – our Summer Camp Program is already starting to fill up, kids are here for Spring Break, our Mental Health services are receiving positive feedback and we’re starting to bring in new hires and build our team back up to pre-pandemic numbers. One of the most exciting things for the club this year is being able to bring back our full-scale Summer Camp in person, with a whole new lineup of exciting programs that include rock climbing, painting, Lego robots, and new cooking classes. These programs are some of the highlights of summer for a lot of our members, as well as our staff.

A big congratulations goes out to two members of our team, Michael Irvine, who’s been named a winner of North Bay Business Journal’s 40 under 40, and Joe Hardeman who's been nominated as one of Forty Under 40 ‘Ones to Watch’ young professionals. Both have the ability to build relationships while building capacity and even through the pandemic have created opportunities that the Club would not otherwise have had without their unwavering commitment and dedication.

If you have not already purchased tickets to Cowboy Cab 2022, we would like to invite you to join us as we continue the celebration of those who have made Teen Services what it is today, and the impact we will continue to make on the lives of Sonoma Valley teens together. The event will be a fun celebration of you, the teens we serve, and the great work we can accomplish together. Please visit bgcsonoma.org/cowboycab today to get your tickets.

With gratitude,

Cary Snowden, President & CEO

Teen Services - April Highlights

Building & LOCA Kitchen Improvements

Late last year we reached out to you and asked for your help to fund some vital building repairs to help ensure we can continue to run Lovin' Oven. The repairs were required due to the change in ownership of the building, and the resulting requirements to bring the kitchen, and much of the building, up to the current code.

We also made additional improvements to help ensure the safety of members while in the building. We installed windows in several of the doors and walls to ensure a clear line of sight for easier supervision, we fixed a hole in the subfloor and replaced the flooring in the entire building, and flooring in the bathrooms was upgraded to meet the current code. The kitchen work was required in order for LOCA to continue selling and serving food to the public and included; upgrading some appliances to commercial-grade, replacing ceiling tiles with less absorbent alternatives, and we replaced the water heater to ensure the sinks reached an appropriate temperature for sanitation.

After all this work was done, we learned the grease trap had failed and needed replacing. All told, the building has required over $65,000 in repairs over the past few months and we thank you all for your support in making these vital improvements possible. A big thank you to Boden Plumbing for their generous support during this project.

New interior windows were installed and the interior was professionally painted for a bright and fresh look!

New flooring was installed throughout the building.

One of the most important things from a health standpoint was cleaning and changing out the grease trap for the kitchen.

Staff & Board Members - April Highlights

Mirvine.png

Michael Irvine voted a winner in this year’s Forty Under 40 for Napa, Marin, and Sonoma counties

As VP of Development & Marketing for Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma Valley and a Club alum, Michael lives and breathes “the once a Club kid, always a Club kid” adage.

In the last 4 years in his position, and in the midst of a pandemic, he has increased our overall operating revenue by 20%. This in turn has allowed the Club to provide more resources and opportunities for growth and expansion which has a direct impact on the children we serve. Thank you and congratulations, Michael!

Joe Hardeman_40Under40.png

Joe Hardeman voted as one of Forty Under 40 ‘Ones to Watch’ young

professionals for the San Francisco North Bay

As the VP of Program Operations for Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma Valley, Joe sprang into action at the onset of the pandemic to find the safest, efficient, and effective way to serve youth in our community

Joe is an active member of several committees and task forces in our community, from the Valley’s Community Partners Emergency Preparedness to SOS (Supporting our Students). Joe received certification in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the workplace from the University of Florida Muma College of Business last year. Thank you and congratulations, Joe!
