Camp Simmons is 77 acres of pure wilderness on Lake Avenue in Greenwich featuring an outdoor swimming pool, archery range, and pond for fishing and canoeing.

At Teen Camp we believe in giving our campers a voice, through a summer program designed for high school students, offering them ownership, responsibility and the opportunity to grow through local travel, service learning and leadership training.

When School Is Out, Our Club Is Open

Our youth enjoyed a week full of activities during February break. During the school vacation week, members participated in: drumming class; crafts; ice skating and swimming field trips; a visit to the Bruce Museum; and pancakes for lunch! A highlight of the week was the annual Rebecca Breed Valentine’s Day Ice Cream Social. This tradition was lovingly carried on in Rebecca’s memory. In addition to her years as a lawyer and children’s advocate, Rebecca served as Greenwich’s First Selectman during the 1980s, a longtime member of BGCG’s Board of Directors, and was BGCG’s 2019 Champion of Youth.

What an amazing night we had at our 18th annual Swim-A-Thon raising over $16,500 for our aquatics programs! BGCG swimmers filled the pool at Greenwich Catholic School, swimming more than 1,100 laps. Thanks to sponsors and donors, our community’s youth will continue to have fun learning the aquatics fundamentals. SPECIAL RECOGNITION to swimmers Ellie, Camila, Alexa, Daniela, Julia, and Michael who raised between $500 and $3,975 each! SPECIAL THANKS to our sponsors: Cardinal Capital, Metro Swim, and The ZAC Foundation!

Barracudas Swim Team

BGCG’s Barracudas competitive swim team participated in the Fairfield County/Westchester Swim League Championships to finish off the 2023-2024 season in Yonkers, NY. A number of team members displayed impressive results with CJ Johnson winning 1st place in the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly in the 13/14 division. Neville Warburton took 2nd place overall in the 9/10 age group with a 1st place win in the 50 freestyle, 3rd place in the 50 backstroke, and 4th in the 50 breaststroke. Many other swimmers were heat winners, and scored points for the team. Great way to finish the season!

BGCG Meets with our Local Leaders

CEO Advocates at the State Capital

In March our CEO, Cristina Vittoria, joined the Connecticut Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs leaders to advocate for the Neighborhood Youth Center line item in the State Education Budget. This funding has supported core Club programming in the areas of Academic Success, Health & Wellness and Leadership Development for thousands of local youth. BGCG, along with the Connecticut Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs, looks for the continued support of our legislature.

While at the State Capital, Cristina also had the opportunity to meet with State Representative, Steve Meskers.

State Officials Visit the Club

We were happy to host Senator Richard Blumenthal and Representative Jim Himes along with a few Board Members and Alumni in January for a “hard hat tour” of our Clubhouse renovation.

“The Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich does such important work to set a new generation of Connecticut’s young people on a path for success,” said Representative Jim Himes. “I was lucky ... to hear how the new expansion will help this local organization best serve our community.”

BGCG is grateful for all of the support we’ve received as we work to bring expanded, modernized, and reimagined spaces to local families.

College Readiness

College Campus Tour

As part of our college exploration program, our Teen Coordinator and KidTalk Counselor traveled with a group of BGCG members to tour Wesleyan University during February vacation week. The young scholars learned about program offerings, study abroad opportunities, and got a feel for campus life.

Over the past few years, our teens have had the opportunity to visit a variety of institutions: Connecticut College, George Washington University, Georgetown University, Johns Hopkins University, Marist College, Sacred Heart University, University of Maryland, University of Rhode Island, and Villanova University.

Corporate Volunteer Spotlight

Connecting with Kids

Our thanks to a team of volunteers from Graham Capital who spent an afternoon volunteering at our after-school program. The volunteers engaged with energetic members in a variety of educational activities, including an “Addition Squares” dice game, a “Word Card” scramble, and time spent reading. They also prepared afternoon snack on a day filled with joy and meaningful connections.
