BGCG CONNECTIONS
March 2022
Dear BGCG Friends and Families,

Springtime means new programs and exciting events at the Clubhouse. We delight in the smiles and renewed energy our youth bring to us during this season. As our free enrichment programs begin today, our kids will participate in new programs, such as cheerleading, wrestling, and rowing, and our hallmark offerings like Finance Champs, Power Hour, computer coding, mixed media art, and many others.

In addition to the start of our new program session, spring marks our 54th Annual Youth of the Year Dinner on April 6. This year we will celebrate our very own, Don Palmer, as our Champion of Youth. This honor is bestowed on an individual who has impacted our work and youth in extraordinary ways. As Don celebrates his 30th year at the Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich, I hope you will join me in congratulating him on this prestigious honor and thank him for the enormous impact his leadership has had on our Club and the kids.

Our Youth of the Year celebration also reminds us of the vital work BGCG does to help build teens, grounded in character, embody all the best of the Club as Don Palmer does. Twelve high school members applied to become our Youth of the Year. These teens showcase the best qualities of our Club and remind us of the journey they took to arrive on this stage. Many of these teens have been coming to Club since they were six years old, taking advantage of our after-school programs and summer camps, leading Keystone and Torch Club, working as after-school and summer counselors, and most importantly, serving as role models for our younger members. We will announce our 2022 Youth of the Year on the evening of the 6th.

BGCG works to enrich the lives of all our members through supportive relationships with our Staff, first-rate offerings, and by creating opportunities so that each member will be equipped to graduate from high school with a plan and the eagerness to be responsible, caring citizens who will positively impact their communities.

Thank you for your support and friendship. We hope to see many of you at the Clubhouse over the next few months.

With gratitude,
Cristina Vittoria
CEO, Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich

HOW TO TIE A NECKTIE
As part of the “Passport to Manhood” program for young teens, BGCG teaches life skills to our youth. One afternoon this winter, staff, board members and town officials taught boys in the program the intricacies of how to tie a necktie - an important rite of passage. Each of the program’s 14 sessions use interactive activities to focus on a specific aspect of character and manhood.
SAT TEST PREP
Prep classes for the SAT exam can cost $1,000 or more, not including materials. To ensure that all teen members have access to exam preparation, Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich partnered with Carnegie Prep to offer an 8-week course FREE to our teens. The course is designed to emphasize the skills, strategies, and content associated with the test that are necessary for student success. Courses such as this are available due to the generosity of our donors.
PROGRAM EVENTS
16th ANNUAL SWIM-A-THON WAS A SWIMMING SUCCESS!
DID YOU KNOW? Over 40,000 children have learned how to swim in our pool.

What an amazing day we had on Saturday, February 26 at our 16th Annual Swim-A-Thon! Alumni and BGCG swimmers filled the pool, swimming more than 1,300 laps. Thanks to sponsors and donors, our community’s youth will have fun learning the fundamentals of water safety, including swim lessons, swim team fun, lifeguard certification, and more, because we raised over $15,000 to benefit these programs!

SPECIAL THANKS to our sponsors: Cardinal Capital, ZAC Foundation, and Custom Aquatics!

There is still time to make a contribution to the 2022 Swim-a-Thon. You can help keep our aquatic programs FREE to members by clicking here.
